Naked women can keep on dancing at Shotgun Geniez in Hamburg, Iowa. So says an Iowa Supreme Court decision released Friday.

The justices ruled 4-2 that Iowa state law exempting theaters from a statewide ban on public nudity pre-empts a city ordinance designed to restrict the activities of adult-oriented businesses.

Well, that's very sad that Iowa has a statewide ban on public nudity. I wonder if that extends to private clubs. (But not enough to Google the answer. ) I guess anyone who wants to have a nudist club should just have poetry readings or karaoke all the time.

It has to do with nudity in the news. Yes, it's sexual entertainment nudity, but it's still nudity. At worst, it's a demonstration of how simple nudity gets wrapped up with sex in the minds of the general public and law. Nudists/naturists need to keep vigilant to work against this sort of entanglement.

The law in Iowa basically states that anywhere a business collects sales tax, nudity is not permitted, save for artistic nudity (dancing, plays, etc). This ruling basically reinforces the dancing aspect.
