    Nudity in the headlines

On the local news last night: "Naked Man Arrested for Shooting Fishermen on Arkansas River"

Come on this story is about the fishermen being shot. The "Naked Man" wasn't even charged for indecent exposure and this is Ark. It does say that the police conformed that he was naked but he was awakened from a sleep on his houseboat. And the pic they used, he has no shirt on, are we supposed to believe he is standing there nude in the police station? Just another example how the media uses nudity to attract viewers.

Nice link. You are right, nothing was said about being charged with indecent exposure, but all through the cast, all they stated was "the naked man". lol

no doubt, the tv station had "comimg up next" promos to keep the audience riveted to their seats wanting to see if they can catch a glimps of the "crazy naked man" on the news. It's always news when the police catch someone naked!

Not coming up next, but "On news at 6:00" and then they used the headline as they were coming on, but didn't have the story until the last 10 min. of the news.

    Re: Nudity in the headlines

The fact that he was naked seems incidental and seems to have nothing to do with the story. Again, nudity is used as a "hook" to pull people into the story.

Davenport told 5NEWS he fired shots because he was startled out of a deep sleep.
Van Buren police confirm Davenport was naked, but do not believe he was intoxicated.
It's reasonable to assume the man slept naked, and while
startled out of his sleep, he didn't think to put on clothes.

I can see that..... I often want to run outside for something (for a few seconds) -- and then realize I'm naked.

His crime was firing his gun indiscriminately.

    His nudity? Meh.....

What I've learned from the media today: In Arkansas it is illegal to shoot fishermen while nude.

No word on how much clothing makes it legal.

Anything they can do to get naked into a newscast, they will do it. If a criminal is naked, you can bet newscasters will highlight the nudity first before the serious crime. Also will happen with heroes. If a man wakes up and saves his family from a fire, they will highlight his lack of clothes before his heroic deed.
