The contest offered a $200 prize for several categories, including most degrading moment for women, most degrading example of public sexual performance and most degrading example of child abuse.

I wonder if former Asheville vice-mayor and clinical psychologist Carl Mumpower and former Republican County Party Chair Chad Nesbitt who sponsored this contest could be arrested for promoting child abuse. Purposely requesting photos would be tantamount to being a participant of the child abuse and possibly should be prosecuted as trying to promote it.

Appearently the main ones who were really against this event were the high-ups in Mayor's office and 'clynical psychologists.'

But on the flipside of that there were the participants in the event who took the concept of the event out of context by grabbing breasts and of course the one guy who put his mouth on a female's breast. The party got out of hand and that's what changed the overall tone of the event for the worst. People didn't behave and respect the original concept of the event.

My understanding was that in Canada, a previous court case allowed for equal rights for women to be topless, in public, as they desire.
However, few women, have in actuality, done this.

I don't think that is true in all of Canada, but happened in Ontario and (I think) BC. Similarly court decisions achieved that in Ohio and New York, and now is the case in a half dozen states and DC. Details differ, and prosecutors are adept at using other laws (disorderly behavior, failure to comply with the instruction of a peace officer, frightening wildlife) to criminalize legal topfreedom when they really really want to. Amazingly in Florida, which has an equal rights amendment in the state constitution guaranteeing that the law treat women equally to men, the State Supreme Court* ruled that the equal rights amendment does not apply to women.

*NB: the ruling was by a District Court of Appeals, but since the State Supreme Court declined the appeal the decision stood.

I had to double-check if it is April 1st when I saw that.

So I watched the video mentioned. Unless there is other footage then neither of the acts they mentioned happened.

There is a scene of a man picking up a topfree woman. He does curls using the woman as a weight, resulting in her breasts coming close to his face, but he does not actually touch them and definitely does not suck on them.

Another image turned up clearly showing a man with his hand on a topless woman’s breasts

Later in the video a man puts his hands under a woman's arms and lifts her off another mans shoulders. Again, although his hands come close to her breasts he studiously avoids touching them - as he would, he is later in the video identified as her brother.

As I said, there may be other recordings and these are not the events being described, but I will believe it when I see it.

I think though the councils predictions were in part self fulfilling prophesies, as most of the spectators showing up were men looking to see the debauchery they were warned against. If the council had said nothing it would have been a quieter event, such as in NY, where there were 70 participants and no problems reported.

I think it's a sad commentary on our country that so many men turned out to take pictures and leer at the women. They're women - with boobs. You can find millions of them on the Web. Are men so desperate for some kind of live sexual thrill that they need to go gawk at women engaged in a civil rights protest? Pitiful.

But, of course, the women are blamed for putting themselves on display.

I'm still of the opinion that these protests should be held at a beach or other place people wear swimsuits and might reasonably be expected to WANT to be topless. Almost no men walk down the street topless, or be in urban areas (downtown, the mall, that sort of thing) topless.
