Would this 'public art' be approved today?

This atomically correct 'public art' was installed on the streets of PDX over 40 years ago. With the exception of a few minor objections when it was erected no one has objected to it over the decades. Would that be true today if erected today?

It would probably get some that would complain about it, and because for what ever reason the vocal minority is listened to, it would be removed.

LOL! Californians never give Oregonians enough credit for their well-earned common sense! I doubt there'd be any fuss.

Probably would be alot more complaints heard today than 40 years ago, what with the communications tools people have these days such as the Internet. People seem to be alot more schitzophrenic about nudity-related issues these days than they were 40 years ago, that is for sure.

Somebody would say that the state should be creating jobs, not art. Then somebody would point out that everything Republicans do is wrong. Then somebody would point out that everything Democrats do is wrong. Everybody would suddenly be an expert on everything and none of the arguments would have anything to do with art.

I was saying it as a generalization, I know that there are exceptions and was not targeting Oregonians at all, more the nation.

This beauty was purchased from the artist by the city I live in. (The community voted and "Salutation" won and was purchased.) She is part of the publically owned art collection that is throughout our community. I have always been so proud of my community for showcasing such a gorgeous work of art in the center of downtown! To my knowledge, no one has complained. I did laugh a few times; once when she had a tee-shirt on, and I was in hysterics the day I drove by and some one had placed the fuzzy side of black velcro in a very strategic position! Can you say 'landing strip"? (That didn't last long on her!)

Symbols of life come in all forms. A piece of artwork drawn as a youth, a photograph, a poem or maybe a piece of jewelry handed down from your parents, the thing is anything can be meaningful to someone. So if someone says, 'Hey, I am saving that', and you take it or throw it away, you may be throwing a piece of them away.

If they loose it or let go of it on their own, that is human choice; that is what we are as we grow, age and learn about the world. Each of us is a caretaker of memories, of dreams, even those we do not understand.

That's why I never let anybody near my mustard packets.

Is this the only picture available on the `net? I like to get different views. Besides it is a little under exposed.
