Negative behavior at nude beaches.

In my area we only have two nude beaches.Both seem to have issues with folks who don't conduct themselves in a manner that would promote a positive light on the rest of us nudists.I have been propositioned by older homosexual men,and witnessed men gratifying themselves purposfully in the line of site of women at the beach.The beaches are not overseen by any naturist clubs,and I don't wish to draw negative attention from the forestry department that runs the parks.Any suggestions as to possible actions when these behaviors are witnessed?

I think you have mentioned the only solution: a naturist/nudist club must be on the beach fairly regularly to provide safety a family-friendly climate for beachgoers.

They must also be proactive and work with law enforcement to stop sexual solicitations and public masturbation. Things will only get worse if you don't report the crimes.

Central Florida Naturists patrols the nude beaches they go to and report crime and it works!

I agree with Trailscout. There must be a group of nudists who can regularly "patrol" the beach for inappropriate behavior.

The thing is that as beaches are public domain, anyone can go there, nudist or not. Thoes who practice such outlandish behaviour are probably not nudists, just people who want to take advantage of the privacy of such beaches to do what they feel like doing.

We frequent a nude beach that has had some of this inappropriate behavior. There is a group that patrols our beach but not all the time. When they are not around, us regulars usually take care of these people. We usually explain to them that their behavior is inappropriate and if caught by the lifeguards or rangers, all of us nudist could lose the privilage of nude use of the beach. Most of the time the activity stops or they get up and leave the beach. It works best if a couple of men at least approach a male that is doing something sexual. My wife confronted a woman and her husband/boyfriend (?) sitting just 10 ft from our group. She was fondling his penis and then started to cover herself to give him oral sex. My wife stated that just because we are naked did not give them the right to think this would not offend us. They stopped, packed up and left.

Most of the time, embarrassing the person works. You really never have to become threatening.

My advice, get together with some regulars and make a stand. It took us along time to get where we are. We don't need a same group ruining it for us.

Good Ideas Fire Prof. I have seen this done in the past and have used it myself on occaision. It does normally work best if it is done by a male or like you said better yet a couple of them. I no longer have any tolerance for this kind of behavior it has cost us to many good beaches. Some people do do this out of ignorance, but even then they should have known better. I say if they want to get their kicks this way go to a regular clothed beach and do it so they don't mess up our beach. Nude ain't rude but public sex is.

I agree that these suggestions would be a good idea,but at this particular beach there are more offenders than regulars.Used to be a good beach,but the flood of the Columbia in 1996 started the decline of the population at this beach.It's a place called Rooster Rock on the Columbia River east of Portland,Oregon.There are only two beaches I know of in the area that are recognized,and they both rely heavily on where the river level is at.Seems they both have the same issue with delinquints.We'll have to see what can be done.Thanks for the advice. Well, here's my 2cents worth...Let me say kdawg that although I agree that some older homosexual men can be a problem with propositions the problem does not solely lie there. I'm in my early 30's and have been propostioned by both sexes. I have witnessed heterosexual couple performing sexual acts to varying degrees regardless of them being in full view of everyone on the beach. Also I have been approached by married men who are supposedly totally heterosexual for sex. Having said that I know men and women of either sexuality and there are a lot of nice, decent people on the beach for the right reasons. It may be a good idea to treat people (of any sexuality or gender) as they would be treated on any other beach whether it is nudist or clothed...that is to approach them and explain their behaviour is inappropriate. If it persists then authorities need to be notified. I share your concern for inappropriate behaviour, it is offensive. If someone expresses their attraction to me it is not offensive (and I don't mind being appreciated by either sex as I am comfortable with my sexuality and don't find admiration confronting), but if they are being crude or using inappropriate physical means to try to force the issue it's horrible...If someone is doing something obviously unlawful or harmful to others I feel it should be reported to the relevant authority.

Freedom for all - Straight, Gay, All Races, Women, Men and Children....Just keep it clean.

I would like to clarify that I didn't mean to sound negative towards gays in any way.I don't have a problem with anyone having a different preferance than me,and I'm secure enough in my sexuality and personality to not be offended or threatened by another man conveying an interest in me.I was,however offended when one man appeared out of the bushes ,stood over me just two feet away,and said,"Nice **** .".While I might appreciate a compliment,even if I don't agree,I found this to be rude and offensive.I would never approach a woman on a nude beach and tell her she had nice **** ,especially if I were intrerrested in meeting her.A compliment is one thing,but being lewd and crude is another.I wasn't offended an hour later when I was leaving,and another male said,"Catch you later handsome" as I passed him.While not smooth,this was not offensive to me.I can understand how women and some men would find this intimidating enough to turn them away from the nudist lifestyle,and give it a bad reputation.Hope this clears things up. Kdawg, it does seem like we are on the same wavelength and basically what we are saying is the same thing. Thanks for clearing that up. I guess I get a bit defensive as the is so much talk of promoting a 'family' environment all the time. Being single for the past twelve months I have found that some people treat me overly cautiously because of that fact. When they say hello and bother to talk they find I'm an o.k. guy after all. Anyway, I agree the environment we are promoting is one for everyone, excluding only those who break the law and invade other people's space inappropriately. As I said - people should act as though they were at any other beach, nudist beach or not. Unfortunately there may always be the odd exeption where someone may come to the beach and see it as sexual rather than natural...and that definately should be dealt with no matter who it is.
