That sounds like a question to ask your doctor.

I would suspect poor diet, lack of exercise, lack of proper rest, and possibly coronary symptoms.
My physician is very cautious to treat anything with drugs and tells me many symptoms can be reversed by modifying one's habits.
I only can say in my case, quitting smoking, walking 3-6 miles four times a week, and being aware of sugar intake has had a positive effect for me by lowering triglycerides and increasing physical endurance. By watching sugars (starches and refined sugar) intake and replacing most of them with more vegetables and proteins, I dropped my triglyceride level from 330 mg/dL to 130 mg/dL within six weeks and used no medication at all.
Regards,
Keith

Kieth is onto something.
When it comes to erections, a penis is just a visible part of the circulatory system. If there are other issues, it can't get erect.
A good circulatory system is a pre-requisite for healthy erections.

You're welcome.
A lot of gents seem to be reluctant to visit and discuss E.D. with their Physician when they first experience difficulties, fearing embarassment or an adverse diagnosis, I guess.
As I understand it, the greater problem is waiting until the condition gets out of control before seeking help.
I hope your friends don't wait until their problems won't or can't be easily managed through simple lifestyle modifications.
Regards,
Keith

Men have a continual slow decrease in arousal as they age, starting at about 18 or so, and as you age, you just have sex on the mind less too. Compare to when around 15 and the wind blows the wrong way and arousal happens. Womens is much more abrupt though.
But health and physical activity have a huge impact too. If you are sedentary, overweight with poor diet, arousal and erections will be rather rather. Go for a walk 3-4 times a week in the evenings, eat well, and well of course alcohol can be a big killer on blood flow down there too.

When any part of the body stops working in the way that it always properly had, that is a reason to go see the doctor. As Keith said, it could be a circulatory issue that may lead to death if nothing is done. There could also be a chemical imbalance. In either case, the men need to get over their embarrassment and go to the doctor.

Besides what has been stated above, another factor may be how the man sees himself. The first thing to do is to consult a good doctor and get over his embarrassment about discussing E.D. If he's in good shape according to the doctor, then the problem(s) may be psychological. Or, it could be a combination of factors. .age, diet, habits, mental well being, etc.
According to what I've read, all men sooner or later may "fail to function", regardless of age. True, this may occur more often with age but I can tell you for sure, the first time this happens it really hits hard. The next time, that's always in the back of one's mind. .

This is why it is important to practice the fine art of conversation, so one has something else entertaining to do when physiology fails one.
