Nudity helps with asthma?
Hi I have a friend who suffers from asthma and who's getting into nudism. She's been nude lot these last few months, which for her is something totally new. These last few months her asthma has gotten a lot better (which is extra special because it's hay fever season) Could this be thanks to nudism helping her body breath easier thanks to the lack of clothing? I've been asking around without much result. Does anyone have more info/advice about a possible connection between nudism and relief from asthma?

Asthma occurs when the airways in your lungs (bronchial tubes) become inflamed and constricted. The muscles of the bronchial walls tighten, and your airways produce extra mucus that blocks your airways. Signs and symptoms of asthma range from minor wheezing to life-threatening asthma attacks.
Causes
It isn't clear why some people get asthma and others don't, but it's probably due to a combination of environmental and genetic (inherited) factors.
Asthma triggers are different from person to person. Exposure to various allergens and irritants can trigger signs and symptoms of asthma, including: - Airborne allergens, such as pollen, animal dander, mold, cockroaches and dust mites
- Respiratory infections, such as the common cold
- Physical activity (exercise-induced asthma)
- Cold air
- Air pollutants and irritants such as smoke
- Certain medications, including beta blockers, aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- Strong emotions and stress
- Sulfites, preservatives added to some perishable foods
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which stomach acids back up into your throat
- Menstrual cycle in some women
- Allergic reactions to foods such as peanuts or shellfish

The only reasons as to why she might breath easier are either that some or all of her clothes are asthma triggers or that she is more relaxed when nude. As the above indicates, strong emotions and stress can also be an asthma trigger and nudism is certainly a good way to alleviate stress.

Re: Nudity helps with asthma?
So an uncovered body isn't better able to take up oxygen than a covered one?

I personally don't see the connection, but then again, you seem to be more relaxed when nude and not so 'uptight'. For me, nudity relieves stress and I feel more relaxed, so I guess I can somehow relate. As far as the asthma goes, that's a toss up unless of course, the asthma could be allergies i.e., clothing detergents, allergic to certain fabrics. Good question.

No, for as far as oxygen intake is concerned, there is no difference between a covered or uncovered body unless the clothing restricts the air intake passages (mouth or nose).
Asthma is a result of certain triggers (such as air pollution, stress, etc) that case the air passages to become inflamed and constricted.

Sorry, but not as far as oxygen intake is concerned.

I read somewhere that the increase in asthma and allergies is slowing. Supermarkets are now advertising more and more foods free of additives and colourings. I'll bet this is not coincidence. "
If anyone is concerned about the destructive effects of the sun on skin, then a much better way to obtain vitamin D is by drinking 'fortified' low fat milk. A person also obtains the advantage of calcium, which is necessary to prevent bone loss.
Vitamin D will also do nothing to prevent inhalation of airborne pollution and ingestion of allergy inducing chemicals.

Re: Nudity helps with asthma?
As one who also has asthma, overall stress and anxiety can play a good part in Asthma. To me I would think that this is a stress release. And there's nothing wrong in that. It certainly helps me.
