I read over the internet that there seems to be a lot of anti-war demonstratons planned over the weekend throughtout the country. Just to keep the peace, I will not announce my political standing on that particular issue, but it was stated that a Bay area (San Francisco Bay),nudist organization is planning a nude protest. I find it ironic that even the nudist environment is openly getting involved in political interests. Maybe, it is the area, as the Bay area is typicaly one of the most liberal areas in the nation. Has anybody else read more about this, and if so, are some of you planning on attending? Just a thought

I noticed in the "Nudes in the News" section, there was a nude protest down in Brazil that was over a nude skinny-dipper was arrested over obscene acts. Apparently, this protest ended up being very violent, with mulitple arrests and injuries to both clothes ones and nudists. It is also apparent that this particular protest started out being a peaceful demonstration, but the authorities began to use force to remove everyone involved, physicaly.

I guess this how local authorities in other countries (ENFORCE) their rules upon everyone else. If you "push the envelope" in this particular country, you are going to pay the price heavily. At least, as I know, in our country, physical violence has never occurred over a simple nudist protest. Arrests, yes, but nothing that ended up in violence.

I do not know the entire story of the above mentioned incident, as far as what happened at first, but it is apparent that nudists did not get their message across, very well. Local laws over-took the peaceful demonstration. At least in our country, local officials have maintained some "lead-way" as to what is permitted, and what is not. There is some "give-and-take" attitudes, as long as peace remains and the un-ruley participants remain mute and non-defiant.

We still have a long way to go before laws are to change in our favor, but in the mean time, we cannot afford to have things happen around here like what has happened in Brazil. This would be an ulitimate blow to our accomplishments that have been provided to us so far.

And as an added memo, from the nudist world, I would like to take this time to wish my sincere condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones during the space shuttle Columbia disaster yesterday. This is a reminder that life is too short, and nothing can be taken for granted. Live life to the fullest.

Actually, I disagree and think this may help nudist. If you read the article, you will find the police also attacked the reporters covering the event. The news media takes a very dim view of police to start with and this may actually help us as I think the media may be more open to nudist in the future.

Frank R.: Read the article again. You will find that the police attacked the nudists AFTER they left the youth camp, and not before. Were the police attacking the nudists to get them off the street, or just to get everyone off the streets? We probably will never know. I, personally, do not think this will benefit the nudists one bit. They just decided to demonstrate in the wrong place, outside the youth camp and onto the streets.

This just tells me that the police down there are non-tolerate of nudists. But, as stated, they were probably just ridding everyone off the streets, as this was a international conference that had just ended. Due to the threat of a terrorist attacks throughtout the world these days, maybe this is why they chose this action. But the nudists were clearly there and they did make the headlines. Is this a positive or a negative? Who knows. Time will tell.

Have you considered being nude in public "for Peace" There's a website for the non-profit org that's doing this: http://www.baringwitness.org
At least some of the members might be in favor of protests of this type. It would certainly help to get media exposure for the nudist community. The organizers of the previous protests are afraid of being caught on camera nude and recognizable. They therefore do not notify the press until after the event has been staged. Since nudists would not be afraid of being seen naked, this would allow full press coverage.
As I?m sure we?re all aware, the legal opinions about women being topless are that it?s only a matter of time before the Supreme Court rules that a women has the right to be topless anywhere a man has the right to be topless. Wouldn?t a public war protest of topless men and women be a great way for this to be pursued!
Please forward this to any nudist/naturist organizations or individuals that you can think of.
I am a practicing (when I have the opportunity) nudist. I was formerly a member of the A.S.A. and South Florida Free Beaches. I am not currently affiliated with any nudist organizations.
Thanks,
?Tonto?
