medical marijauna
This is a subject that more and more people are talking about. I'm all for it. Rather than start with the usual argument, however, I'd like to begin with something a little more amusing that the members of this particular forum might appreciate. A Joke.
Did you hear the one about the swat-team that busted down the doors of a man suspected of having marijauna?
They found him completely naked, just out of the shower, and the swat-team leader said, with disgust,
"Put on some clothes, you pig!"

I'm for the use of medical marijuana. I don't personally use it but I have some friends that I know it helps.

So, you know it helps people. What's your opinion of the federal law-makers who oppose it? unkat27

I've decided to transfer this discussion to the miscellaneous forum because it fits there better.
Same question, there, if you're still interested.

I'm not against people intaking the active ingredient for medical purposes, however smoking it seems the most crude drug delivery mechanism possible. Seems that if it's truely medically valuable, the active ingredients could be standardized and concentrated into a pill. It's obsurd to think that smoking anything is going to be great for your health.
Now legalization I see as a separate issue, and yes, I think law enforcement wastes too many resources trying to bust people for weed, when there are much more serious problems out there. We had an out-of-control swat team prgram going on in this area years ago, terrorizing the county, busting down doors, ripping couples out of bed naked at 3 AM at gun point to find their dime bag. A little overboard? You bet. On top of their overzealous agenda, they were corrupt, ignoring the required legal steps for their operations and shamelessly lying in court to get their convictions. (for anyone in southeast Ohio, this is obviously the SECO outfit of the late 90's I'm talking about)

There is an expensive pharmaceutical version of THC in pill form called Marinol. It makes absolutely no sense at all for cancer patients who need weed to counteract the nausea caused by chemo to take a pill they can't keep down - smoking it is an ideal method of delivering the dose.
It also makes no sense to take a common healthful herb, prohibit it and replace it with a less effective expensive pharmaceutical.
But these decisions are not made on the basis of what is best for patients. They are made on the basis of what is best for very large corporations that donate boatsfull of campaign cash.

I agree with mark on this one. The process of making marijuana illegal in the United States had a lot to do with money and special interests.

Our legislature (Connecticut) sent a bill approving medical use to our governor this year. Despite being a former cancer patient herself, the governor vetoed the bill.
I used to use it for migraines. It eliminated the pain and nausea in minutes, at most half an hour. I've never found anything else even remotely close to as effective, but due to the paranoia of the law, can't use the best medication available any more.

I do not know how accurate or well balenced or reasoned these statements are.
