Woman charged after appearing nude on web
FOREIGN STAFF
NUDITY, pornography, racism - in the lawless realms of cyberspace anything goes, unless you happen come from a small town in Nebraska which managed to find a way of charging a woman for posting nude pictures of herself on the web.
Melissa Harrington was charged with violating Lincoln?s public nudity ordinance by posting pictures on her website. Her mistake was to have had the pictures taken at the town?s Marz Intergalactic Shrimp and Martini Bar.
"It?s unlawful to be naked in public in Lincoln," Lincoln?s police chief, Tom Casady, said, adding that the pictures showed Ms Harrington "naked at one of our downtown bars and in several other locations around the city".
But Ms Harrington hit back: "They?re not going to stop me from doing what I?m doing. I enjoy what I do and they really don?t have any grounds now to go off of to prosecute the case."
The 21-year-old, who works as a web designer at a local bank, says on her website that she likes "being naked in public, even more when there?s a lot of people there to watch".
Mr Casady said it is obvious that the photos were taken inside the Marz bar. The owner of the Marz, Jerry Luth, said: "I?m the one who called police to complain about the nude pictures."
If convicted, Harrington faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a ?300 fine.

Duh, If the owner had problems with one of his employees, why on earth did he not first take her aside and talk to her about it instead of calling the police. I mean, jolly gee wiz people, give someone a chance to not do something again instead of screwing them over!!! And if then they insisted on making a complete idiot of themselves knowing the end results, then go ahead and take proper action. The article doesnt (that i remember seeing,) say that the owner talked to her first to try and resolve it. I realize that she loves the attention and all, yet to go and screw someone over cuz you want to be an ahole is another story!!!! Just my opinion
Have a great nude night,

Not to sound dumb or anything, but what does that transfer into dollars and "sense"? Seems rather superfluous to me.
Nurse2b: Obviously you were posting the same time I was. Going back to another thread, something about nudity in your own privacy, it's these kind of people who will try anything to prove that nudity is wrong. It's a "money grabbing" tactic. It's obvious that this owner wants to make a name for himself, or he is an insider to a local politician. It's ludicrous.
These are the same people who live in many of our neighborhoods that we have to have an eye out for. It's these kind of people who will cry foul, far before the ball hits the dirt, and yet, stick to that philosophy.

There are websites featuring attractive young women walking around nude, in shops, in restaurants, but mainly just in the street.
Much of this is claimed to be informal and unrehearsed and it certainly looks spontaneous.
The girls are attractive, but generally not "model" types.
Sometimes the story line tells you it's in Germany, or wherever, sometimes, if you recognise the writing on billboards or shop signs, you get an idea of the country.
It seems mainly to be central and Eastern Europe.
Most of the photos are, to me, pretty harmless.
The people who just happen to be around sometimes appear interested and approving, but generally they seem like they don't much care, one way or the other.
I have a nudist friend who works in the Perth entertainment industry and he has arranged this type of thing a few times in Perth and photos have been published in Australian nudist magazines. Again, onlookers have appeared to be interested or amused, but not particularly concerned.
Australian nudists seem to be divided on whether or not this kind of thing could be good or bad for nudism.

There's a lot of "nude in public" (NIP) web sites. Some of them are naturist or nudist in their approach, some go to the opposite extreme and are overtly sexual. Most are just a bit of harmless exhibitionism and pranksterism.
I have to say that, unfortunately, the owner of the bar was entitled to call the cops on it. You should always get permission of the owner before losing your clothing.

I say the bartender was being irresponsible, especially for one of his own employees. He shouldve had a talk with her long before he called the police. That was just way over the top. I think it wouldve been simplier for all involved if he had done this.

I don't remember the article saying she worked for the Bar...it said she designed websites for a local bank. I'm sure the bartender was getting "unwanted" attention from perverts who saw the pictures and started hanging out at his bar to get a glimpse of 'naked girl' in all her glory. If I were a business owner, that might upset me too...though he IS getting free advertising from it, and an increase in business!

Bar owners in Australia have to pay big money to nude, [or skimpily dressed, depending on the State laws], bar-staff.
This does not attract perverts, but good paying customers.
I hardly ever go into pubs, because, despite surveys showing that a huge majority of West Australians want the pubs smoke-free, that has not yet happened.
However, judging by the large number of pubs using this business tactic over many years, the substantial extra wages which must be paid over conventially dressed female bar-staff and the proliferation of agencies supplying the demand, I would tend to accept that it's good for business.

Yeah I think that if the bartender has a problem with perverts then he needs to ask them to leave, not the nude woman because she is the innocent victim minding her own business and these perverts are there to oogle and cause trouble and have no business being in the bar and even if she wasnt there theyd still come and cause trouble. I think that even if they were there and watching her, it attracts people to his bar and gives him business and even if he finds it questionable, its better than being without money, which im sure he needs it to run his bar more efficiently. I think if you stack the facts up accordingly, it would be in his better interest to let the woman stay and be nude than ask her to cover up or leave.
