Corkey and all,
I placed this here because I wasn't sure where would be best.
I was wondering if the member ratings are really positive or useful. Do they really add to the experience of using this forum or do they subtract?
IMHO, I see some potential problems. One that comes to mind concerns the fact that jerks sometimes join up (recently one went by a name that rhymed with "Dud"). A jerk could vote someone a 1 just to be, well, a jerk.
I want to say that I'm not saying I think they should be removed. I just think this deserves discussion.
I hope others would give their opinion on this.

Actually one really effective way to deal with some of the "Jerks" who like to liven this BB up with their tricks is to report them to Corey and Aaron. Something I always attempt to do is copy the thread they post along with my complaint.

NuTex,
You are certainly not the only one who views the "star" system with some skepticism as to its relevance; not to mention its "accuracy". Absent any objective standard of evaluation anything goes. OTOH, I guess it gives us something to talk about until the drugs kick in. (Claritin, just Claritin. Honest! I live in the San Joaquin valley, Allergy Capital of the West. I tend to agree. I think that the system is over rated. I used to be a little upset that I wasn't rated that highly but I could care less now. I have seen some who are rated rather highly post some really obnoxios posts. I would rather we all only had our membership dates or something like that. But honestly, it is not a big deal to me anymore.

You can always opt to not allow ratings on your profile, as Greensunshine and a few others have done.
I always give everyone 5 stars when I rate them, except that one unfortunate time when I clicked on the wrong one. I couldn't change the rating, but I think that poster has since left the bb's.
I hope everyone has a ***** weekend!

At first I had 5 stars and went "Yeah!" But when I went down to 4 I was disappointed. It was then that I got asked myself "what the &*%$# was I thinking?" These are meaningless. I almost decided to opt out but then I decided I wasn't going to let it get to me. So I choose to just ignore it.
But then I realized if I felt that way what about others? What concerns me the most are the feelings of young people. What if some jerk drops a young person rating just to be mean? How might that make her or him feel? And many young people are rather sensitive to the opinion of others.

I have been posting since March of 2002 and only 11 people have given me stars, which I am still stuck with only 4. I used to think that the ratings were given by the administrators, but quickly found out they were given by the members. It used to bother me, but I have since came to the conclusion that we all can't be perfect "5-stars" .
Seriously, to me, it doesn't mean a thing, other than the fact, it gives others another feature to play with. I believe that everyone deserves stars for being able to debate, within reason, about topics concerning nudists, either pro or con, as we have all seen. Kind of gives everyone an idea on how we are all different, and how many are all on the same track. Afterall, that is what keeps these forums going.

NuTex...We have no control over the jerks that come here. What we can do is be ever vigilant and report things we do not like to Corky, Bart, and Corey. We can always use the PM feature to ask how things are going for the younger people. (If they choose to use that feature.)
BTW...I gave you 5*****'s....feel better now?

All the stars mean is who we agree with and who we don't. The more people agree with someone, the more stars he/she gets. The less people agree with someone, the less stars he/she gets. It's a popularity contest.
