I am going on vacation in a few months and am considering visiting a nude beach for the first time. I am wondering, as a general rule, would it be pretty safe for a single woman to go by herself? I have heard of stories where there are guys walking around with mini-cams taking photos- which I'm not sure I'd like without my knowledge. Is there a list of particularly reputable beaches, or how would I go about finding one that is? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!!

Although it could always be a possibility, most nude beaches I've been to have a general code of "no pictures" unless permission is given. At Black's in San Diego, many are on watch to make sure shutterbugs aren't at work. Your best protection is likely in the more regularly used sections. Most of all, go and enjoy the beautiful setting and have fun.

Try a recognized resort the first time -- they have rules about camcorders, etc... good luck!!!

Last summer, I was at Wreck Beach in Vancouver, an officially accepted c/o beach that attracts thousands of visitors on warm and sunny weekend days.

I saw one of the regulars go up to a guy who appreared to be taking photos and grab the shoulder strap, in preparation to tossing the camera in the water. The photographer pleaded ignorance, which was eventually accepted.

However, earlier in the day, a camera was tossed in the ocean. This is the regular punishment for photographers at this beach.

I would recommend taking another friend the first time. And while no one can protect against all cameras, you should be aware that there is always that slight possibility of a pic being taken.

Take a runner if possible. Then they can run down the illicit photographer and straighten them out.

As a general rule I would say yes it is alright. However I would suggest that you go on a weekend when more of the regulars will likly be there. They have ways of dealing with those guys and you might feel a little safer. Look for an area where they are playing volley ball or some other group activity. Also look for other women they will be where they feel safe at.
As to where to go there is lots of info on the net. Check out the links page here they have one for nude beaches but it is mainly for California. There is also the book, "World Guide to Nude Beaches," put out by The Naturist Society they have a web sight that can give you lots more info.

Goodluck have fun and use lots of sunscreen.

I've beemn a regular at Haulover nude beach near Miami for nine years, and there are always plenty of unaccompanied single women there. we have lifeguards, police patrols and a support group, South Fla. Free Beaches, and they can and do feel perfectly safe during normal daylight hours.

Regarding photos, 99% of the photos taken at Haulover are taken by nude people of other nude people - friends and family - and no one minds. Occasionally, someone is spotted sneaking photos. It's a public beach, there is no law against it, and we have been informed that any attempt at assault or destruction of property could result in arrest - not of the photographer, but of the assailant.

The fact is that in almost every such instance, the offending photographer will cease and desist immediately when confronted. In cases when someone persist is making a nuisance of himself, a lifeguard will usually respond to acomplaint by radioing for the police, who have their own ways of "suggesting" that the person leave and not come back.

I should add that in almost every such case, the photos are for personal use and will probably never leave the photographer's home.

I suggest you go to a beach where there is some official presence, and go with a friend the first time. I'm sure it will work out OK. My daughter was a regular at Haulover for 3 years till she moved, and never had a problem.

Hi Claygirl,

My wife and I live on the west coast, Southern California. If you need information on nude beaches in California let us know, we'll try and guide you in a safe direction.

Hi Clay Girl!

I am partial to beaches in Georgia and Florida. It's partly true because I live in Georgia, but I think it would still be worth your while to come here from the midwest.

Cumberland Island, GA has wilderness areas and beaches where nudity is practical if you don't mind primitive backpacking.

Part of Apollo Beach, FL is officially clothing optional but parking is very limited. The beach is lovely, but a bit too narrow for volleyball.

Playalinda Beach is wider, has somewhat better parking situation, but is occasionally closed due to rocket launches at Cape Canaveral.

I went to Apollo last summer on a Sunday and it was tranquil, kinda quiet. I am single and went solo. I would have enjoyed it more in the company of others, but still had a nice time.

Haulover Beach is reportedly very popular, a fun and lively place.

Take your pick. Each beach has its appeal.
