Hi,
I am a Druid and practise skyclad, that is in the nude. Naturism and paganism go hand in hand, it is about the connection to the earth and nature. Only by discarding our clothing can we be free of worldly ties.
Bright Blessings to everybody,
David

natural: Nice picture of yourself, but I do have a question. I notice your name is David, but why is your avatar image a female? Just a question.

David,
You struck a pose nearly identical to a classic illustration by Leonardo da Vinci!
I am a Christian, but have long admired the attitude of being in harmony with nature and respect for the body that some other belief systems have.
I think that many intellectually honest Christians have come to realize that body shame is a bit of Greek philosophy that was patched onto Christian thought nearly 2000 years ago. This badly patched on idea has never been compatible with the main body of our belief in a loving creator who made beautiful holy things, including our bodies. Of course not all Greek philosophy is implicated, merely the notion of an aecetic dualism between a good spiritual realm and an evil physical realm.
I do not deny that there are elements of chaos and disharmony in the physical world, but that that the created world still has much goodness and beauty from the hand of the Creator.
On mild and sunny days, it is still appropriate for me to bare my somewhat imperfect body to a somewhat imperfect world to honor the Creator who made us nude by design. Our natural state of nudity allows us to experience our environment unhindered by the sensory deprivation caused by clothing.

Merry Meet David,
I'm a solitary Wiccan (at the moment ) who also practices skyclad whenever possible. I know there are those who fall under the Pagan umbrella who disagree, but I think you're spot on that spirituality and naturism go hand in hand. I tend to think that the only manifestation of the universe that we CAN touch is the planet herself and our connection to all the life that she and the sun have brought forth. The best way, for me, to experience that connection is to get rid of all the trappings of society and just go BE a human being in nature.
I just wanted to say thanks for the link to your site. I'm really enjoying reading through it.
Bright Blessings,
Vin

question for you guys (from another david) - are any of you smooth? i am not and do believe that we each were created beautifully and do not need to modify our aesthetics. it seems more natural to look like we were created - which to me means nude, without make-up, fuzzy, etc. the only thing worthy of cutting (definitely not circumcision!!) is the hair on the tops of our head and our facial hair. but even cutting that hair is to blend in with a society that disgrees with long hair on males.
i hope this does not hijack your post, but rather leads to some insiteful discussion. i need to do more research on your philosphies as i find them very relevant to my personal feelings towards spirituality.

Not me. I agree entirely that natural is best, and that includes whatever hair you are or aren't endowed with.
I do keep the hair on top of my head fairly short, and I don't have a beard. But that's because it's too hot here for long hair to be comfortable. As for shaving anywhere else, I really do prefer to feel the wind in my hair -- so to speak.

Hey guys, what about the hair in your nose, your ears, your eyebrows? As a lot of men get older this hair begins to grow wildly. I believe personal grooming is just that--personal.
Forever nude,

The word "naturism" itself implies a respect for the natural way in all things. The only reason I keep my head-hair and beard trimmed is to get a job. Till recently I had not cut my hair for years, and it was down to about the tips of my shoulder blades, although it's thinning on top. (That's natural too.) My curly beard didn't fall as low but was very full.
Remember Samson, whose lifelong Nazarite vow precluded haircuts until Delilah got to him. There's also a Levitical prohibition against trimming "the corners of your beard" that applied to all Jews. One still sees Eastern European Jews with uncut curls at their ears. Maybe we could learn something...
