My wife and I just got back from a weekend in Wisconsin. The weather wasn't the greatest, but we went rafting down the Wolf on Sunday anyway. Lesson #1: If planning a weekend rafting trip to Wisconsin in June, wait until the last minute to reserve your room in case the weather sucks.

Since my wife was a first timer, we tried a shorter (2-3 hours, and supposedly easier) run (Herb's County M to Wild Wolf Inn, off route 55). Unfortunately, the river level was low, causing us to get stuck on rocks quite a bit. Lesson #2: Call to check river level before reserving your room.

Now to the story: There were 3 other rafts launched at the same time as ours. Fortunately, we were much faster going down the river and got way ahead and out of sight of the other rafts. I had to get out of the raft quite frequently to get us off the rocks, leaving my swimsuit quite wet and cold. And it was an older suit, so it was falling down and giving my wife a show (she was seated in the back). Since there was nobody around, I thought "what the heck", and took it off.

It was great. I was probably nude for at least 60% of the trip. This section of the river seemed to be ideal for nude rafting (I know some other sections of the river run close to route 55, but this one doesn't). Once we passed the 2 boy scout bridges, there was nothing but trees, river, sky, and wildlife. I stayed nude until we reached the County "M" bridge.

If you want to try this yourself, weekdays and Sundays should be the least crowded and you could wait around 15 minutes or more at the launch point to allow any other rafts to get far enough ahead... And you will have a section of the river just to yourself. You may see a fisherman or 2 , but they would have to go a long way to complain.

Maybe next time I can talk the wife into joining me...

sounds like a great time was had. i think it is easier to get naked in remote outdoor environments than people think. unfortunately, in south florida, there is nothing remote left, except maybe in the everglades....

LBN, can you give me a better idea of what part of Wisconsin this was? What town is it near?

The part of the wolf river we were on was just north of the Menominee Indian Reservation, which is northeast of Green Bay by about 60 miles as the crow flies.

We used Herb's Rafts out of the Wild Wolf Inn on Route 55, just north of the reservation border. We took the short run, which is 2-3 hours with 3 rapids. The ride ends just past the inn. With the water level low, it was difficult navigating all the submerged rocks. So, check the water level before you plan a trip. I'm not quite sure how to interpret this info, so you might want to call the inn. If you want to get nude, I would recommend a weekday or Sunday (fewer people). Next time my wife and I go, we are going to see if we can stay at the inn. The structure is rustic, and I'm not sure the condition of the rooms, but it overlooks one of the rapids on the Wolf River. The view is georgeous. They also have a bar and restaurant with huge picture windows. Far different from getting a motel in the center of a concrete forest. When you drive up, I recommend taking Rt 55 from Shawano through the reservation. It is a very scenic route with lots of lush vegetation. There are a lot of curves, but it is worth it. Also, be sure to stop at "Big Smokey Falls" rafting. We didn't rent our rafts there, but it is worth a stop just to see the falls and rafters going over it. Take your camera. They claim there is a "toll" to cross the bridge to go over to the island to see the falls, but no one asked for any $. I have rented out of this location in the past, but don't recall the "nudability" of this section of river (that was before I became a nudist ).

You must mean northWEST. Had me confused there for a minute. The reservation couldn't possibly be in the middle of Lake Michigan, could it?
