This one is for Corey. I assume that is you. Looks more like Aaron, Kinda hard to tell from the back [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img] . In Todays Photo ..4/23/03. I know the picture is taken in Mexico, but the 3 of you are Nude (of course) but in the background are ships at a dock. So I know you can be seen by the general public from the dock and from the shore. How did you pull this off? You have had to be seen by others who could have complained to the local police. You could have been arrested for public nudity. Were you not, excuse my choice of words, afraid of getting into deep trouble? Can you explain how you can just take your clothes off like that? I ask this because this weekend, I want to go to the local park, a large wooded park, a couple of 100 acres, not visited by to many people, and take some pictures with my wife, but was trying to figure out how to do it without getting into trouble. Maybe I am missing something here? Also what kind of camera do you use? I was able to get a Sony CD Mavica, MVC-CD300 at a great price to do my pictures.. Thanks..Keithmj

keithmj: Good point. I noticed the ship in the background is a cargo ship, so it could be possible this area is not used by the general public. Wouldn't that be great, to just go to a loading dock at a port that you could be nude at any time. Here in California, we have a lot of major ports, but I don't think you can just get nude at any given time. I'll be very hesitate. With the way security is these days, especially where there are international ships, I'm sure local law enforcement officers aren't that far away. But, what a great way to have your picture taken, by being nude and giving the French cargo ship the "full moon". [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img]

Hi Keith,
Corey is in Florida right now (see announcements on front page), I am manning the forums. I wasn't there in Mexico but I know they were at a legal nudist resort in Mexico and the people on the ship probably know they were looking at the Caribbean Reef Club, the nudist resort, and probably won't call the cops on a nudist resort.

Anyway, I will have Corey respond when he gets back. By the way, he and the crew will come back with a lot of video and photos from Haulover Beach and other naturist resorts in Florida next week for all of us to enjoy!

The Carribean Reef Club is in Mexico. To my knowledge public nudity is not legal anywhere in Mexico, but topfreedom and some nudity is tolerated for the benefit of the tourist trade. You can be certain that CRC and other nudist resorts in Mexico have arrangements with local government officials and police. To American thinking this may appear unseemly, but that is the way of things there.

I found this info about Public Nudity in Mexico at Cafecancun.com:

Full nudity is not legal, to my knowledge, on Mexico's public beaches, but there are many locations in Mexico where it is common, principally in the more remote beaches of remote locations.

I contacted attorney David Contreras lawbad@terra.com.mx, who replied that "nudism in Mexico has not been legalized, as it contradicts the principles of moral conduct and good customs, a misdemeanor penalized under local municipal codes, the Reglamento de Bando de Policia y Buen Gobierno." I'm not sure what the exact translation would be for that last phrase, but it refers to regulation of public order -- the kind of things covered under disturbing the peace, public displays of immorality and so on in American law.

This is an interesting area of legal discussion, as in Mexico something that is not specifically defined as illegal may be a misdemeanor anyway. In other words, the local code may not actually mention nudism, but it can be penalized at the discretion of the authorities if it is considered to be disturbing the peace. This is very much unlike American law, under which definitions of obscenity or public displays of immorality are often specified in excruciating (and often embarrassing) detail, such as how much of a nipple or crack in the buttocks can be shown.

I guess I'm reading to much into the picture, but most of the pictures appear candid and natural. This one appears as though they are setting up a pose? Maybe it's just me. I do appreciate the heads up that it is illegal to be naked in Mexico. I'll just go to Canada in stead.

Don't. Especially in February. The authorities are not going to run off the tourists.

On the general issue of being naked and visible to other members of the public: here in Australia we have some nude beaches, both official and unofficial, that are readily visible from other public places. Technically speaking it is illegal to be naked at the unofficial nude beaches but where there is an established nude beach, even an unofficial one, the police are unlikely to take action. At some of the unofficial locations the local council or National Parks service even puts up signs saying that nudity may be encountered - warning passersby of what they might see so they have a choice to look elsewhere.
