HW, interesting post, it really makes you wonder. I know there is alot of garbage floating around the net, things that are at best half true. To be honest, I don't accept much of anything, even if it comes from a news site (they NEVER put a spin on anything).

So, with this in mind I would like to pass along something a friend of mine sent me.

Subject: Presidential Confession
>
>> I attacked and took over two countries.
>
>> I spent the U.S. surplus and bankrupted the US Treasury.
>
>> I shattered the record for the biggest annual deficit in history
>
>> I set an economic record for the most personal bankruptcies filed any
>12 month period.
>
>> I set all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the
>stock market.
>
>> I am the first president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.
>
>> In my first year in office I set the all-time record for most
>vacation by any president in US history (tough to beat my dad's,but I
>did).
>
>> After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, I presided
>over the worst security failure in US history.
>
>> I set the record for most campaign fund raising trips by any
>president in US history.
>
>> In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost jobs. I
>cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than other
>president in US history.
>
>> I set the all-time record for most real estate foreclosures in
>12-month period. I appointed more convicted criminals to administration
>positions than any president in US history. I set the record for the
>fewest press conferences of any president, since the advent of TV. I
>signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than
>any other US president in history.
>
>> I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused
>to intervene when corruption was revealed.
>
>> I cut health care benefits for war veterans.
>
>> I set the all-time record for most people worldwide to
>simultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people),
>shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of
>mankind.
>
>> I dissolved more international treaties than any president in US
>history.
>
>> I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any
>in US history.
>
>> Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US
>history. (The poorest multimillionaire, Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron
>oil tanker named after her.)
>
>> I am the first president in US history to have all 50 states of the
>Union simultaneously struggle against bankruptcy.
>
>> I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud in any market
>in any country in the history of the world.
>
>> I am the first president in US history to order a US attack AND

>remove the US from the Elections Monitoring Board.
>
>> I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of
>congressional oversight than any presidential administration in history.
>I rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant.
>
>> I withdrew from the World Court of Law. I refused to allow
>inspectors access to US prisoners of war and no longer abide by the

wannabe...great post. I'll not disagree with any of your points, however I would like to make a point of my own.
I blame Gray Davis for the bankrupting CA. A few years back he "announced" a surplus of money in the State treasury. He gave taxpayers a rebate/refund. Right after he "announced" to the whole country CA had a surplus, the electric companies upped the prices of electric prices. (We already pay one of the highest prices in the country for our electricity.)
He did much to improve our schools. We now have some of the worst schools in the country! Right now the teachers are having to ask for supplies from partents, and taking money from their own paycheck to help pay for classroom supplies.
So yes, you can blame the Bush administration for all the States in financial crisis, but he didn't do it all on his own! Davis became Governor long before Bush became President...
Let's just hope Arnold can do a better job!
Have a great day!

Although I won't argue with the comments on either Clinton or Bush, I must make one observation. The stock market began it's slide almost a year before Bush got into office. I know because during that year my Thrift Saving Plan lost almost twice as much as I put in that year.

Not to comment on all the political stuff... but when Clinton came to vacation a little while in Santa Barbara they shut doewn Summerland as a nude beach (mostly a younger, college crowd) for fear Chelsea Clinton might want to go there.

To my knowledge it never did recover.

I don't vouch for the accuracy, or inaccuracy, of either set of 'accusations'.

It's interesting, however, that the Clinton set does not really focus on performance in office. If you are going to compare the two Presidents, at the very least you can set out their records on identical issues - eg unemployment levels under Clinton/unemployment levels under Bush; and so forth. You can also compare policy matters eg degree of government openness and transparency.

Then, of course, you get into discussions about the causes of various things, such as (eg) who or what should be blamed for California's poor economic record, and how much blame can be attributed to the Federal regime as opposed to other factors. It's a very difficult exercise to compare the two and come out with an overall evaluation of who is 'better'.

I find it interesting that over $50 million was spent digging up anything that could be found on the Clintons, and all they were able to come up with was a bl*wjob.

A long-time White House correspondent, when asked something about politicians and lies, said flatly, "All politicians lie." She didn't distinguish between parties. (I forget her name, but she was the first woman to be allowed into a White House press conference.)

Yes, where the Clintons were accused of abusing the public trust in order to lose $20,000.

Three separate special prosecutors determined that there was no case. And it only cost us $60 million. But they did discover the bl*wjob, so money well spent I guess.

No doubt ours is a wa$teful government. I wonder how many of the politicians would stay in politics if they were paid, after their term was up? We could vote for their salaries after they left office.

But we do pay them after they leave office. Not only do we pay them but the top ones like former presidents get Secret Service protection for the rest of their lives and lots of other benefits too.

Over the years I have really grown to detest and hate politics. I just don't know what to believe anymore, when I hear both positive and negative things about Clinton, and positive and negative things about Bush. What's worse is that everyone involved in politics has the same I'm right and your wrong attitude. Truthfully I believe politics cause much more strife than religion. In truth I believe most dictators, kings, and political leaders weren't religous people but have just used religion as an excuse to justify certain actions.
