The simplest act can sometimes make the most powerful statement. By saying "No", Rosa Parks changed the course of a nation. By sitting, she stood up for her rights.

She will forever be remembered.

Rosa Parks became the first woman to lie in state under the Capitol Rotunda, the 29th time Congress has allowed this and the first time for a woman.

This also repreents only the third time that someone outside of government or the military has had this high honor. The last were two Capitol police officers in 1998.

The first non-government official or soldier to lie in state was the architect who designed DC., Pierre Charles L'Enfant.

A high honor for such an aunassuming woman.

At the time of her 'protest' the country was already in an uproar, as far as civil rights goes. But, it wasn't until that particular incident, was the movement sprang into full gear.

I agree she was the focal point of the civil rights movement, and deservingly so. It's sad it takes an incident, such as hers, to finally get the ball rolling on certain issues.

Indeed, it is thanks to "activist" judges that we (Canadian and American) have many of our wonderful rights. Many thanks to you activist judges out there!
