  • naked at the doctors....

    Hello all,

My name is Joel i posted a question but really did not get the answer i wanted. So i will ask one more time. I am a 39 year old nudist male i do not wear under wear on a regular basis. I was wondering when i go for my pysical is it ok to tell the person who tells me to undress to my undies and keep socks on to tell her i do not wear underwear, or should i wear underwear just for the doctors visit. Also should i ask my doctor is it ok to be naked when you come in the examine room? TYVM For all you responses...

Joel, if you didn't get an answer you wanted in response to your original post - Being naked when the doctor comes in..., I doubt if you'll get one you like in this thread.

      Here's a response...

You should ask for a gown or a sheet.

A doctor's office is not a nudist resort and your doctor is most likely not a nudist. It is a professional relationship and it is important to establish trust in both directions. Would you ask to be naked in your lawyer's office while he/she tried to give you legal advice?

In addition to that, your physician seems to be a female. Anytime there is a cross-gender interaction that involves anything that would fit under the common swimsuit areas, it requires a chaparone, for legal reasons. So it could be somewhat of an inconvenience for the staff since your not scheduled for a pap smear and really have no actual NEED to be naked on your visit.

If your dying to express your love for nudism, then I recommend using skin cancer as a segway. Explain that you are a nudist and your concerned because you spend a lot of time in the sun. And please keep covered up, you'll earn more points for yourself that way, as well as represent nudism positively instead of forcing it upon people who may not wish to see you in full montey form.

        Is it ok etc, etc,...?

Well I guess it depends on the doctor and nurse, why not ask them in advance?

Or better yet just put on some underwear for the event and the issue goes away. I'm certain, you'll survive the rigors.

Now, a personal question please. When you were a kid there in Boston, did your buddies "dope slap" you quite a bit?

After one reaches a certain age, you'll get your annual prostate exam and there is plenty of opportunity for nudity then. Lean forward and cough please!

It's not a fun exam, but being a nudist can help make the patient more comfortable with the nudity aspect of it. And if the patient is more relaxed, the doctor can focus on his or her task without feeling embarassed for the patient.

As for spreading the good news of nudism, it is probably best done while wearing clothes. Maybe for the same reason that the very people who enjoy sausage for breakfast, generally don't want to see it made.

Well. well. You are never asked to caugh when you lean over for prostate exam.

You are asked to cough when you are standing up for hernia examination.

Docdude, nudity is appropriate at a lawyer's office when they are taking testimony in a medical malpractice case. At least that's what my attorney (female) says when I visit.
Ya know, come to think of it when ever I leave a laywers office it somehow seems like I've just had a prostate exam.

The answer you ask for cannot be answered because so many of us have different opinions on what to do in this case.

I can tell you what I have done. What my experiences have been but that still may not answer the question and give you the answer you are looking for.

I have a physical every year for my job. I've visited my own doctor numerous times for so many different reasons, colds to injuries. I am 53 and haven't worn underwear, on a regular basis, since I was 16. In my late teens, I would for a doctors visit but that was the only time. I was in the service after HS and had frequent visited to the Corpman on board ship.

Not once has not wearing underwear ever been an issue with any of the doctors I've been examined by, including numerous female doctors.

When told to strip down to my underwear, I don't tell them I don't have any on, I just strip to the point where I leave my shorts or pants on. When the doctor comes in and requests I drop my shorts or pants for that part of the exam, I do it and they see I don't have underwear on, they continue with the exam as if I had just dropped my underwear.

If you are asking if it's okay to be completely naked when the doctor comes in after being told to strip down to your underwear, take the good Doc's advice and just ask for a gown. Doctors and nurses are used to seeing naked patients but...we should respect them as we would like to be respected, for not wearing underwear, and not shock them when they return to the exam room expecting to see a patient in his underwear and find him standing there naked.

Take into account that many other patients, doctor office staff, nurses and some others may be passing by your door enroute to their exam rooms and when the door opens when the doctor or nurse come into your exam room, those others may see you as well and it's not fair to embarrass them either.

USMC1, my medical advise is worth every penny that you paid for it.

But I hope that my sentiment has not been lost in the midst of my errors. Sooner or later, the doctor will see us naked and our confidence as nudists will likely make the doctor feel more comfortable as well and hopefully benefit us with a more accurate diagnosis.

I also agree with FireProf's common sense comments about wearing gowns. Doctors are sure to run into patients who go commando. This can be handled with courtesy on our parts and no one need be shocked or offended and yet being courteous does not necessarily deny us the opportunity to demonstrate our values of body acceptance.

                        Joel,

You say that you do not wear underwear on a regular basis. That must mean that at some times you do. Maybe one of those times should be when you visit the doctor's office. It's easy enough to plan ahead, right?

Joel, I read all the replies to your previous post and found your question answered fully. The best advice given both here and in your other topic was to inform the nurse and/or doctor that you do not wear underwear. You can then go from there depending on what your instructions are next. They may give you a gown to don for the rest of the time.

Joel:"Also should i ask my doctor is it ok to be naked when you come in the examine room?"

If you can't ask him procedural questions, consider going to see someone else. You should feel comfortable seeing your doctor and asking him any kind of question.

Doc:"A doctor's office is not a nudist resort and your doctor is most likely not a nudist. It is a professional relationship and it is important to establish trust in both directions."

Doc, Freedom Guy (from the other topic that nifocinphx linked to) had the best quote: If a nurse of doctor (male or female) has a problem with nudity, then they are in the wrong profession!

Yes, trust works both ways, but if they can't be trusted to be professional when you are naked, then they don't deserve to be your doctor. I wouldn't ask for anything, just inform them that I have no underwear. They would then either give you a gown to wear or give you further instructions.

It has nothing to do with being a nudist. It has everything with being comfortable and communicative with your doctor.

Now one lsat question: what is the point of couching for the hernia exam?

                          Bob S.

When I go to the doctor, I always strip down as soon as I get to the reception area. No one cares, they are used to it. Then once in the exam room, I wait for the doctor to come in so that I can do a "Woo Woo" dance. I shake my butt and weener at him. He laughs and laughs. Then for kicks, I run nude laps around the office. I tell him that I'm just getting exercise like he suggests. The whole office chuckles at that. Then usually I hop in my car naked and drive away like that. That's not irregular, is it?

As I understand it, when you cough, it puts force behind any possible weak spot, creating a protrusion that can be felt by the examiner.
