I'm the Baker in my family. (Well I have a Sister in law that loves to bake too. )

We are having my wifes side of the family over on the 25th for a big dinner and all that sort of stuff. She has 5 Sisters and a Brother. 5 of them are married. Combined they have 12 children. (9 girls and 3 boys) And I have 3 Great Nieces. ( this family is Dominated by girls )
With Grandpa and ourselves that will make 29 people to feed on Christmas day.
I will be making Roast Turkey with Real home made Stuffing. ( Actually stuffed in the turkey )
Ham Balls, Scalloped Corn, and Pumpkin Pie. The guests will be bringing a side dish or dessert of their choice.
There will be plenty of food to go around.
I'm also thinking about baking some assorted cookies in the next couple days.

Lucky for me my place of employment shuts down for a couple weeks over the Holidays. So I have all week to get prepared for the Big Day.

I might even have to make some "Tom and Jerry's" to sip on during the festivities.

It's gonna be a crowded house on christmas day.

Hey, Steve, I also enjoy baking. I often bake cakes and give half of each cake to my next door neighbors, since a whole cake is too much for me. I make pies and other goodies for the holidays to take over to my daughter's. I got this talent from my mother who an A1 baker. I remember her homemade cinnamon rolls and bread fresh out the oven. My mouth is starting to water just thinking about it!

What is Tom and Jerrys???

I baked brownies yesterday with nuts and chocolate chips in them.

I bake a lot too. A couple weeks ago I made a pineapple upside down cake.

Nude in the North can we all come to your house for dinner? lol

I also do lots of baking this time of year. I bake cookies, pies and make candy to give to the neighbors.

You didn't say how old the children are who will be at your house, but if it is anything like my family the ages are varied.

For a cute twist on the cookie platter make some candy mice. For the mice you will need Hershey Kisses, chocolate chips melted in a double boiler, Maraschino Cherries with stems ( drained) , and sliced almonds.

Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler. Take two sliced almonds, dip just the ends in the melted chocolate, then attach the almonds to the flat side of the Hershey Kisses. When those have set for a little time dip the cherries in the melted chocolate. You don't have to cover the stem, just the cherry. Attach the dipped cherry to the Hershey Kiss. Wa-la..instant mice! Place one of two of these Mice onto a plate of cookies. The kids will love them and so will the adults. TOM & JERRY MIX

2lbs powdered sugar
6 egg whites, beaten stiff
6 egg yolks, beaten
1/4 Tsp. cinnamon
1/2 Tsp. allspice
1/4 Tsp. ground cloves
1 pinch of baking soda
Milk
Nutmeg

Beat egg whites until stiff, like for a meringue.
Add sugar to egg whites slowly, then add the beaten egg yolks.
Blend all together well.
Add all other ingredients and blend carefully.

In a warm mug or coffee cup, pour 1 1/2 oz. of Rum, and Very warm milk to an inch from the top.
Fill mug with batter leaving it 1/2 inch from top. ( 1 to 3 Tablespoons )
Pour 1/2 oz. warm brandy over the top, and sprinkle with nutmeg.

Stir with spoon and Enjoy.

cyndiann...I cant believe youve never heard of Tom and Jerrys...A Christmas Time staple of my younger years...A batter was made of egg and powdered sugar ...hot water was added along with some rum or brandy or a mixture of the two...You could usually buy bowls and mugs imprinted with Tom and Jerry ..Auld Lang Syne or such...Oh and I almost forgot the creamy top was sprinkled with cinnamon or nutmeg....UmmmUmmm! what's the difference?

(as I head for the fridge and the egg nog and brandy)

I've had eggnog with alcohol in it, but I had no idea exactly what was in it. It was very good. I also worked with a civilian when I was in the Air Force who drank spiked coffee at work. He gave me a sip, and it was the best coffee I ever had. By the time he went home he wasn't feeling any pain.

I don't like the taste of rum, and I got sicker than a dog on it the one time I drank it. Someone mentioned Brandy. What other alcoholic beverages are generally added to eggnog? I'm interested in making some, but not being a drinker beyond the occasional rare drink, I'm not knowledgable about such things. I tried Mike's Hard Lemonade and like it, although it doesn't taste like lemonade.

I usually get a headache from alcohol, which is why I rarely drink anything. I was told that low alcohol beverages cause headaches, but that higher alcohol beverages don't. Any comments on this from the more experienced drinkers?

cyndiann...I always think of eggnog as cold and T&J as hot ...Eggnog is usually made with milk or cream while T&J is not necessarily...I prefer it made with hot water and also prefer home made over store bought batters...
Jon-Marc... I'm not a drinker but I do like just enough brandy whiskey or rum for flavoring ...Odb

For adding just the right amount of flavor----nothing can beat Capt. Morgans Spiced Rum

For coffee---It's gotta be Bailey's

I'm very late with this poem. I did not post it sooner as I just located it in my files. It is a good poem which, you who enjoy cooking, may want to copy.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Turkey is stuffed, Potatoes fluffed,
Salad is tossed, Cranberries sauced,
Gravy is creamed, Hot coffee is steamy
Pie crust is flakey, Gelatin shakey,
Green beans are buttered, Blessing is uttered,
Platters are filled, Talking is stilled,
Praises for food, friendships renewed.

I do not know the author. This poem now has reminded me to go eat supper (microwave a frozen dinner).

Thanks for the recipe NIN!

That is an incredible amount of sugar. I think I will write that down and try it sometime anyway, sounds good.

Happy new year all!
