Its all shiney happy words that make you think something will be done, when its usually the exact opposite of what it sounds like it is.

War Is Peace
Freedom Is Slavery
Ignorance Is Strength
We're living it somewhat.
Some are masters at manipulating the irrational paradoxes of the masses.
Remember that the ability to be nudists is allowed only by a basic respect for individuality, and I think nudism at a practice elivates that to the highest level, because when we're naked that is all there is.

How interesting that it was passed over whelmingly by the r's. Now they want to extend it and take away more of our freedoms in the name of anti-terrorism. Aren't they the party of individual rights, family values and lesser government? Or am I getting confused with the facts.

If you tremble indignation at every injustice then you are a comrade of mine! We all warm our hands at fires others have built and drink from wells dug by those who came before us. We, each of us, have a moral obligation to keep those fires brightly burning and those wells flowing!
Well folks it's still there and it's still kicking.
One of the joys of living in the country is that you have the choice of General Delivery, Post Office Box, or a Mail Box on a poll out along the roadway. Each option has weaknesses and strengths.
We opt for the box on the pole along the road. The advantage is that you get you mail in a timely way. The disadvantage is that each summer with time weighing heavily on teen shoulders they feel compelled to baseball bat or cherry bomb such mail boxes into oblivion.
"Patriot Ac?, USMC" you queary, "come to the point", you ask.
Relax, I'm getting there.
So, day before yesterday, during the night, ours was flattened thinner than a dead skunk five days in the road.
So we calls the high-sheriff. And before she could report this nefarious deed of criminal vandalism, Mrs USMC was advised that "under the rules of the Patriotic Act we will have to be given your SS or DL number and a physical description of yourself, before we can take the complaint"! "Yes ma'am they say, nobody likes it, but the Patriot Act makes us do it".
OK, got it?
I hope the right-wing mo-fos and flag-waving, jingoistic thirty-five percenters feel safer!

I don't know a lot about the details of the Patriot Act. I do know that we as Canadians can be affected by it. I resent that big time. I also resent our government putting our documentation and stuff in a position of being at risk from the Patriot Act because of contracting out to big American Corporations.
As Fred said, we are ruled by Corporations now, not by our elected officials. BOOO HISS!

Yes, our government has been more cautious of Canadians coming into the US since they caught the Al-Queda guy crossing the US/Canada border headed for Los Angeles with a carload of explosive devices.
We used to just drive back and forth. Now we're going to need a passport, and we get checked closer.
Blessings

Even worse than the corporations are government agencies (police, DOJ, INS, HUD, FBI, IRS, BATF, FCC, CDC, etc. etc. etc.) that write laws to justify and expand their little empires.

Frankly, I would rather have the government looking after things than corporations. I would say it is the lesser of two evils in some respects. At least politians are elected and have half a chance of being booted out next time. And in the case of the US president, can only serve two terms. Brilliant by the way. Would you want GWB for a third term? Scary.

Power to the people! Right On! Get out and vote! Run for office! Work or volunteer for someone running for office that sees things your way. Write your congressman, senator, local government, etc. Write letters to the newspaper. (They still have those? I'm told Johnny Carson isn't on TV anymore.) Get involved!
Me? I'm too busy.
