  • Black's Beach?

Hello everyone once again. I have a question that has been on my mind for quite some time. I am wondering what the deal or status is regarding Black's Beach in La Jolla,C.A. It used to be a real heavy and well-attended venture among nudists years back. I went there for the first time in August of 1992 and again in the summer of 1993. Both times it was almost packed with a plentiful amount of nudists/naturists. I went there in the summer of 2012,two years ago, and there were hardly any diehard nudists from what I could see. There was a volleyball game going on among a few nudists though. What I am to say or ask is what has happened to the popularity of Black's Beach? I was just surprised to see the beach almost empty when I was there two years ago. Anyone have any insight on that? My curiosity is killing me! Thanks in advance!

I/we have visited several times in 2013 and 2014. When "we" visited, during the weekend, it was crowded enough with lots and lots of nudes. During the week, while I visited and my wife was at work, there we more bathing suits and younger people from the area and college. Many youngsters got naked for a short time, then got dressed and left. Two years ago ... many were still using San Onofre Beach, south of the fence line. Since then, many of those nudists have decided it was safer to just drive to Black's and not hassle with the rangers and Marines. I think Black's sees enough nude use that my wife is comfortable with visiting ... but the trek up, after a day of lying in the sun ... tough on these ol' bones and muscles!

Hello FireProf. Well, I am glad you had better luck than I did when I did like I mentioned. Do you know if they were legitimate nudists, or just swingers or just a bunch of people who simply got naked and hung out there? Just curious. Thanks for the reply. Maybe I will try and visit there again this coming summer if all goes well.

Ken, there, like on most nudist beaches, are certain areas for certain groups. As you ascend the trail, the first section you come to is the, "I'm here to try it/I'm here to look area." As you walk north toward the volleyball courts you'll hit the area where the Black's Beach Bares usually congregate. This is the area that is the most populated with legit nudists or legit nudists that are on the beach to enjoy the sun, sand, surf and friendship. As you head a bit further north you'll come to the area with lots of couples that are there to "play/ exhibitionists, mild to wild sex ...", beyond that is where the gay males usually park their blankets. Like any other nude beach ... there are spaces between each group that I'd call the ... "indifferent zones."

We've had lots of couples and females in both the "try it/ look at it" area and the "mild/wild sex" area leave those areas and move closer to the "legit" area. Those that were in the "try it" area decided it was something they now wanted to do and those in the "mild to wild" sex area either didn't realize that's the area they were in or became uncomfortable with what was going on. I'm really not sure why but the Prof and I must look trustworthy because we start out with no one around and by the end of the day we end up with lots of couples and single women around us. The enjoyment I get is being able to talk to many of them that have lots of questions about the beach and the nude clubs in the area. Met some really nice people and made some friends. What I'm not crazy about is that some of us are still the nude beach police and seem to end up spending our days shooing away the pests bothering the single women. When I become irritated with that, I just think of our daughters and their friends visiting and would want someone to do the same. So ... I still spend my days on Black's doing that, from time to time.

Stay in touch, hopefully I/we can make it to the beach when you visit so we can meet in person.

Wow FireProf, you nailed it! So funny because I haven't been to Blacks in 10 years at least, but when I was a regular, that's exactly how the beach was broken down. Amazing. My current home beach, Pirate's Cove in Avila has changed significantly in that time. Since the beach actually faces south, you have the west and east ends. The west end, which is at the trail head, used to be where the gay males camped out. The rock pile in the center is where the Mexican men would sit and drink beer (fully clothed) and leer at the people on either side. The east end is where you would find the volleyball net, and the locals, families and friends. This area rarely sees any clothed people, most being too timid to get that far.

Now, as of last weekend anyway, the west end at the trail head has been taken over by college kids for parties and drinking, mostly clothed. The rocks still have the peeping drinkers and the east end remains unchanged. The locals make a point to walk all the way down to the west end, in groups, to mingle with the college kids, and usually carry a pirate banner with them, to make sure the mostly clothed college kids understand it's still a nude beach. I walked down the beach with them late in the afternoon, and was pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the clothed college crowd! A few were naked, but the clothed ones smiled, waved, gave thumbs up to the pirate flag and generally seemed perfectly comfortable sharing the beach with us. So far, there seems to be peace between the clothed and the nude ends, and I hope we can keep it that way.

Last time we were at Pirates Cove ... wow ... probably 10 years ago? The day we visited, we didn't notice a definite line between gay males and all the others. I think, at that time, they all just mixed together. We walked down about half way and found a spot next to another couple. I asked if we could share the sand with them, they smiled said, "certainly!" We talked for a bit, we got our things all set up and began enjoying the day. 15 mins later some guy comes down and walks right over to where we were sitting and gives us a dirty look and then drops his backpack on the other side of the couple. I looked over at them and they said ... "he's a regular. he thinks he owns the beach and he always drops his bag where you are sitting. Pay no attention to him!"

He must have been one of those "all nudists are friendly", nudists! hahaha It was a nice day but we haven't been back since. I've read lots of reports about some of the changes and that really stinks if those college kids start taking over the beach. The nudists have to stick together and either get them to convert or ... have them find another beach to drink their beer. I think they are just there to be looky loos.

OK FireProf. Maybe we can arrange a date or time this coming summer when we can meet in person like you said. Would you like to send me a private message on here when the time comes? Or would you like either or both of my private e-mail addresses? Let me know.
