  • Memorial Day holiday

I am wishing you all a safe and Happy Memorial Day holiday. Please keep in mind the real reason for this day as we remember the many service men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defending our country and preserving our freedom. Also, please keep in our prayers the members of our military who are currently serving both domestically and overseas and are in harm's way. Furthermore, pray for their families as well.

We went to the parade today. Honor those who gave their lives. This should be somber. Not a party. Many Honor Guards and Color Guards passed by. No one but I stood as they passed. No man but I removed his hat. No one but I saluted as they passed. Smiling faces, throwing candy, parade vehicles blowing their horns. At least the FireFighters got it right, no sirens.

My neighbor was in the Air Force and killed in Vietnam. A classmates brother was also killed there. Our small town of under 6,000 at the time lost 3 young men there.

Thanks for your thoughts Mr. Palmer but in my opinion I can not say "Happy" when speaking of our war dead.

This is the day to salute our fallen, those who paid the dearest price, the ultimate sacrifice.. We should also remember those Gold Star Mothers.

Those currently serving and those who have served should also be remembered every day, but Veterans Day is their "official" day. If it is possible to thanks only one day.

No picnic for me today, it is not a party day.

Thank you to all who serve or have served to keep us free.

That's a good point about using the word "happy" regarding this holiday. I never thought about that, but I sure will from here on. Thanks for your input Biker!
