If you tremble indignation at every injustice then you are a comrade of mine! We all warm our hands at fires others have built and drink from wells dug by those who came before us. We, each of us, have a moral obligation to keep those fires brightly burning and those wells flowing!

Don't forget, in the USA May 1st is "Law and Order Day" by proclamation of Ronald Reagan. Heh heh heh, lets break up some unions and fire some air traffic controllers ...

Where's Andrew Carnegie and the Pinkerton men when you need them? Not to worry, their successors are carrying on their Robber Baron legacy quite well.
I do wish that transportation workers would find ways to go on strike that don't involve shutting down trains, planes and buses. Maybe they could collect the fares but not turn over what they collect to management. Let THEM do without pay for a change!

Mark, if you contracted with someone to perform a task, and they subsequently refused to perform that task according to the contract terms, would you dismiss them and seek someone else?quote:Originally posted by Naturist Mark:

If someone contracted with you to do a difficult job requiring great skill and sacrifice, and you fulfilled your contract with dedication and good faith, but found that when the contract ended, that someone refused to negotiate a new contract in good faith, even though they had promised to do so, and were required by law to do so ... what would you do?

Uhh...Help me out here, I suppose staking them out naked in the blazing hot sun on a hill of fire ants smothered in honey is a politically incorrect response? My moral compass seems to be drifting now a' days.
Not an excuse but I've been staying up late a lot watching old westerns, you know those old movies with John Wayne aned Ronald Reagan and Hop a'long Cassidy?

If an imminent strike involved mission-critical natural resources or the transportation system, couldn't the case be made that the strike could not be allowed for national security reasons, but that the parties would be bound to arbitration?
So what would YOU do? The party you were trying to negotiate with is acting in bad faith, they are breaking the law and their own word. What would you do?
Of course we are both alluding to the Patco strike in 1981 - who were deliberately backed into a corner by the Reagan administration in the hope that they would do exactly what they did.
