In October 2003, I took the Gatwick Express high speed train from Gatwick Airport to Victoria Station in London, where I conviently caught the "underground" (subway) to my destination. This express train leaves from Gatwick Airport every 15 minutes and takes 30 minutes to get to the London Victoria Station.

This train set-up is nice and convienient, so I see no need to limit yourself to B&Bs near Gatwick Station, which, if like hotels in the Gatwick Airport area, are higher priced.
