  • California Coast

    All,
My wife and I (in our 30s) are heading out to California for a week and a half long vacation towards the end of July. We'll be driving the coast between San Fran and San Diego, stopping along the way, and even heading to Napa Valley for a day. The question is, which must visit nude beaches (Blacks, Baker, San Onofre - or even others) would you recommend going to in July? I would like to stop at a few on the way down the coast. Also, if we were to visit one clothing optional resort somewhere close to the coast, which one would you recommend hitting.

    Thanks in advance.

I visited San Onofre and Glen Eden on my last trip to California. I recommend them both. I wanted to visit a couple more venues but I had a reluctant spouse accompanying me. She was ok with San Onofre but did not visit Glen Eden.

For a clothing optional resort close to the coast I would recommend Lupin. They are in the Santa Cruz area and a little in from the coast, but that can be a good thing in July when coastal weather can be foggy. The sun most always shines in the summer at Lupin. Check them out at lupinlodge.org

I've been to both Blacks and San Onofre. Both are well worth the visit. I hasten to add though that the "goat" trail down to blacks is not for the faint of heart. Once you make to San Deigo, look up and go to Swallows sun island. you won't find a more friendly club anyplace.

Are you driving out here or flying?

Thanks for the replys so far.

We'll be flying out to CA and then getting a rental car to drive down the coast.

Would recommend Blacks, San O, Sun Island, and De Anza ...

I have also visited both Blacks and San Onofre as an out of towner. Both are great, and I suggest a day at each if you have time. My one comment is that San Onofre seems to have more places for a little privacy, at least down in the Marine base (which is technically not allowed). There are many nooks and crannies where you can get out of direct sight down the beach, hidden somewhat by sand and bushes. If that's important, the San O is the place to be.

                  OHguy -

Sun Island Resort (formally Swallows Sun Island), east of San Diego, has been mentioned in this thread. Although it is a great place to visit, be advised it is NOT a clothing optional resort.

Thaks for all info. I'm in the same predicament that most guys are - the wife not a true nudist and can feel a little intimidated at first. She has gone nude on the beach before, but I have to take to slow.

I've also heard about Glen Eden for a resort - anyone have any opinions on that place?

Glen eden has a great friendly, family atmosphere about it. Lots of couples and people of all ages young-old. It's been almost a year since i've been out to Glen eden, but I had a good time and still lookin to go back again (first just gotta get my butt off this chair, and start movin...one leg...at.. a time...ahh, hard part's over...?).

Male:female ratio was pretty much even so maybe that helps your wife feel a tad more comfortable?
Nudity is also only required in the pool area if I remember correctly (I could be wrong feel free to correct me on that one : P)

On busy days, most folks gather around the main center of the where all the action is: pool, showers, community room for karaoke/ dances, food lounge, game rooms, tennis and basketball courts.
If you guys are looking for a bit more seclusion, there's a hilltop/ outdoor chapel where u can quietly sit. Oh there's also a gym just a short distance away.

more at gleneden.com if you haven't seen the site already. I think they're still giving out free all-day passes. Anyways, enjoy!

Be sure to visit Pirate's Cove in Avila. While you're there, stop by and soak at Sycamore Mineral Springs. You can spend the day at the beach and top it off with a soak in a private outdoor hot tub tucked into a tree covered hillside. In my opinion, it makes for a perfect nude day.

If you are going to be in Napa you are only about 45 minutes south of Harbin Hot Springs. This clothng optional hot springs resort features hot an cold pools, massages, camping, hiking and a very mello atmosphere. Harbin defiitly ahs a "New Age" atmosphere but anyone is welcome and accepted. See www.harbin.org
