The world of nudism, or naturism, can go FAR beyond sitting naked at a keyboard. If you never have tried nude recreation - or social nudism - you're missing out on some fantastic life experiences. TRY IT SOMETIME. Contact your local groups. You'll wonder why you didn't do so sooner.

Up here in New England, if you want to participate in nudist activities, you're going to have to have a car to do so.

The Friends of Gunnison Beach (Sandy Hook) site is http://www.gunnisonbeach.org
Sanslines replied to the questions as to whether you could get to Sandy Hook without a car and by foot, by posting,

By Ferry
Seastreak, Phone: 1-800-BOATRIDE, [1]. This is a very large and luxurious catamaran commuter ferry. Leaves from Pier 11 & East 34th Street in Manhattan directly to Sandy Hook, a thirty minute trip. Tickets are sold as you get on the ferry. $33 includes ferry and bus fares. On the ferry, there should be someone handing out maps of Sandy Hook. When you get there, after the 1 hour ride, you can walk to the beach or take a shuttle bus (yellow school bus). There are 3 main beaches, but the only nude beach is Gunnison. To walk to the beach just follow the other people heading out past the lighthouse. It takes about 15 minutes whether you walk or catch the shuttle.

The ferry does not dock at Sandy Hook per sey, it docks near Sandy Hook. There are also no docking facilities on the ocean beaches and Gunnison is an ocean beach as opposed to a bay beach. There are a couple of different docking places , one at Atlantic Highlands area and the other at Highlands area and are both on the bay side of the penninsula. There is a shuttle bus from the docking area to the various beaches along Sandy Hook including the clothing optional beach. Be sure that you take the proper ferry so that you will be able to take the shuttle bus to Gunnison beach. If you attempt to walk from the closest ferry docking area to Gunnison, you will spend at least 1 1/2 hours or more as it is a very, very long walk. The first ocean beach may be a 15 minute walk but this is NOT a clothing optional beach. There are beaches all along the hook on both sides and most of these beaches are textile beaches. You would have to walk from the ferry landing area due east across a draw bridge to get to the Hook (penninsula) and then walk north to get to Gunnison. Be absolutely sure that you take the correct ferry from one of the lower Manhattan docks that Sea Streak services..... one that will be supported by the shuttle service to Gunnison Beach.
