We are going to explore the area around Death Valley CA (via Las Vegas) in a few weeks and are looking for info on good hikes, springs, or other places to be naked, if it is warm enough. Any suggestions?

derfkraw Hello,
My job takes me out to Ridgecrest/China Lake quite often which is in the Mojave Desert. After a day of work in a lab under flourescent lights or even when I'm out on the flightline, I absolutely FESTER to peel of my clothes and go for a hike. Every day after work just to keep my serenity in check I head out to the desert for my afternoon naturist walk sabbatical. From Ridgecrest, I go out CA-178 East towards Trona about 15 miles to a road marked Trona Pinnacles. That drops me off in San Bernardino County in the Searles Lake Valley just west of the SW corner of Death Valley National Park. It's all dirt roads that spread out for miles all over the valley. I've been out there many times and have only, on occassion, seen cars going back and forth to "The Pinnacles" State Park. And they are so far away they don't even notice I'm there. I'll park off to the side of one of the dirt roads and head out "cross country" into the desert wilderness. It's all flat so I can see if anybody is coming for literally 5 miles in any direction. I've gotten as comfortable as to leave everything back at the car and go out for miles completely unencumbered. I would HIGHLY recommend that area...

Years ago when we had to drive across Death Valley one summer, I rejoiced that I had an excellent car air conditioner.
However, as we approached Death Valley, there was a government sign warning us to turn off our air conditioner, as the heat may do damage. I was flabbergasted (perplexed) about the prospect of going across the hottest part of the USA without my air conditioning.
I turned my air conditioning off and we got thru it just fine.

I spent 3 weeks there last winter. It's my favorite National Park.
Emigrant Campground, fresh water, flush toilets, pay phone. Free hiking.....right out of your tent.
It's a small CG with like 8 spots. Great location too.
PM me if you want details.
p.s. I was there for the 100 year bloom last year. I got to paddle my canoe in the basin.
-282. 1st time in 40 years since that was done.

I think I mentioned this in another thread on this subject but if your driving a vehicle that can handle some rough dirt roads you might wnat to head out to Saline Valley it has some awesome natural hotsprings and the whole area is clothing optional you will likely find other nude users there. Directions are a bit complicated so buy the book Hotsprings of the southwest by Jason Loam and Marjorie Gersch put out a few years back that has good directions in it. good luck

The reason of this is that when you slowly clib up frpm the bottom your airconditioners cooler is in front of your car's engine cooler and the engine temperature raises too high and you enginen coocks. You can use air conditoner if you continiously watch the engine thermometer not go too up. If it raises the you have to swich it off. We had 104fahreheit 40 celsius there down.
