Sounds horrible. I hope the freedom do continue.

Ouch.....that hurts. I just spent a week on, what I call "my little heaven" Little Beach. I was there ALL day, EVERYday. Now I'd have to leave by 6pm? Oh, I see the logic in that? What?

        Thanks for the update, Sauna.

Thanks for the update Oceanair. I am planning on visiting Little Beach on the 10th or 11th of next month. Guess I had better wear my watch. I am also going to attempt accessing Red Sand Beach while on Maui. I understand the trail is very treacherous, do you know of an easier access? Thanks again for the information.

There's only one trail to Red Sand Beach. Caution is required, but I do think that the hazards are overstated providing that you are a confident hiker. This isn't the trail for persons with balance problems or fear of heights, but Yosemite National Park has many trails that are at least as dangerous.

When you get to Hana go to Hasegawa General Store. They'll give you a map.

Thanks luvnaturism, I will definately stop by the store. I have read that if you follow the wire fence that separates the Hotel's cottages from the Community Center it is a much gentler slope. Do you know anything about this?

                Al Bundy,

Please post a trip report when you get back to the mainland about your experiences and updates at Red Sand Beach and Little Beach. Thanks

                Aloha!

My wife and I are planning our first visit to Maui in November and were wondering if there are any other places where one might enjoy being naked?

Following the wire fence is how you start out to reach the actual trail. I don't think the chief issue with the trail is that it's particularly steep, but rather that it's one person wide along a cliff that you definitely don't want to fall off of.

But, to be redundant again, I didn't think it was any more dangerous than many mountain trails that are heavily used, and the difficult part isn't long. I do encourage my wife not to make that hike, as she has a balance problem; I'd also encourage anyone with a significant fear of heights to find someplace else to hike.

Hey Hairyballs, it is great that you and the wife are heading to paradise in Nov. The only nude beaches on Maui that I am aware of is Red Sand Beach and Little Beach. There is a clothing optional B&B in Kihei which is not far from Little Beach. http://www.littlebeachmaui.com/tropicalbreezes/
We will be staying at the Maui Prince which is about a mile from Little Beach (according to Google). Hope you guys have a great time.

Thanks for the update Luvnaturism. Your description sounds as if the hike is do-able. I will be making the trip on my own as my wife has a bad back and when it goes out she cannot move. Hate to have to helicopter her out. I made the trip down the cliff at Black's Beach about 5 years ago so hopefully the trail at RSB is not as bad as that one.

Going to be in your great State before and after Maui and hoping to vist Glen Eden and Sun Island.

Thanks again for your input concerning RSB.

For our first visit to Maui we booked at a resort that a friend who trains with me at the gym recommended. It is called the HALE LAI O KIHEL condominiums.. How far is the C/O beach from this resort. We will have a car. Are we going to get in any trouble with the law if we are naked on this beach. - Any help for our first trip to Maui would be greatly appreciatedttp://www.littlebeachmaui.com/tropicalbreezes/

HB, not sure how far Little Beach is from Kihei but looking at Google Earth, it could be about 15 miles or so.

Public nudity in Hawaii is illegal but I have not heard of anyone being arrested at either of the beaches. I doubt that you will have any problems. Park in the first parking lot for Big Beach (Makena). I made the mistake of parking in the second and had quite a walk to LB although it was good exercise.

May I suggest that you purchase the book Maui Revealed as it has been invaluable to us on our trips to paradise.

                            Good luck.

We stayed in Kihei on one trip. Of course it depends somewhat on where you are starting from, but I'd think 5 to 7 miles to Little Beach would be more like it. Traffic can be pretty congested through Kihei, so you're probably talking 10 to 15 minutes to the parking lot for Big Beach. From your car to Little Beach will be another 10 minutes or so, particularly if you're dragging much gear.
