  • Bird island North/south Carolina??

Ok, I did a search on the boards for Bird island and found a small amount of info, but the threads date back to 2003.

Has anyone been to Bird Island recently and if so, how it look for thongin or fully nude sunbathing?

I'm planning a trip to Charleston SC and will be taking a day to head to Bird, as long as things are fees-able for such activities.

How's it looking these days and how far is it estamated to be from the nearest beach access point? a 1/4 mile or 3/4 of a mile?

I was at Bird Island Last October 05. Best option for parking is at the pier. From there it's a good 2+/- miles to the rock jetty. www.nudetravelguide.com used to have a forum where I got my information before I went but it seems that the site has been down for a while now. From what I remember the nude area started at the state line past the Kindred Spirits mailbox (yes it's a real mailbox stuffed with letters) and ended at the rock jetty. I was there on a weekday and there were a lot of people coming and going, none of them nude. From the posts on nudetravel most of the nude people were there during the summer, July - August.. and stayed mainly behind the dunes. A family that rented the house we stayed in made a comment in the guest book about "interesting people frolicking on the beach". Sunset is a great beach, but if you're going for the nudity, go with the idea that you will be the only one. I don't know what the local dress code for the beach is but there was a guy wearing what looked like silk bikinis and didn't have any problems. Yeah I saw that website you listed at the end of your post. Thats where I got the best idea for my plans this June. I'm not looking for a place where others are nude, preferably I'd rather be on of only a few if not the ONLY one nude on the beach because I have plans to take self pictures and do some roaming if possible.

And that nudetravelguide site didnt work either.
I emailed a lady who rents beach equipment to beach house renters and I asked what the cost was to rent a bike for a day and she said it was $15. It;s worth it to me if it means getting down to bird island and back to the pier quickly.

tahnx a bunch for the info Rawhide! Look me up on yahoo messenger if you want. (thongerlover2005)

If anyone is interested, I have tons of info and pictures of Folly beach that I gathered last August for nude sunbathing ans thongin. I took 3 good days and really scoped things out, down to the time of day and when to cal it a day if you want to go nude on Folly and NOT get busted.

Bird Island is a great place to go. I was there last summer. Bird island up untill a couple of years ago was private owned land. nude sunbathing wasn't a problem. The state bought the land and it is now a wildlife management area.
Now that the state ownes it it is now against the law to be nude on the beach. Last year I talked to the beach patrol officer and he said that thongs a g-strings are ok.
The best parking is at the end of the road and from there , walk south about a mile until you get to the next group of sand dunes.
During the summer, a lot of people walk the beach from sunset beach. But most of the time you will see other people laying out.

Afew years back Bird Island was sepreated by a inlet from Sun Set beach and did not have the beach walkers to worry with. Storms shifted the sand and closed the inlet, now you keep some thing to cover up with when the walkers are around so you don't affend any one. Can normaly lay out over behind the duns with out a problem I have gone to the water and cooled off and back with a towl on my sholder and never had a problem. Near by is Wispering Pines c/o resort about 6miles from beach they have rental trailers and camp sites real nice bunch.
I camped there don't rember how much but was not bad.
Back to the beach come out early and watch the Sun rise no people and you can have a wonder ful time. all day. Summer & week ends are a lot bussier of both walkers and the rest. the familes and most beach goers stay near the Pier.
Might do as I have go to Good Will pick up a bike and use it for your vacation and give it back to Good Will if you are finished with it.
Stay safe and nude when possible.

              awesome!
thank guys! I plan on renting a bike across the street from the pier.
I really dont want to have to confine myself to the dunes, I'd rather sit back in the packed sand, near the dunes but not IN the dunes since there's usually no breeze back in there. I dont plan on laying on a towel or blanket I plan on sitting in abeach chair low to the ground with a towel drapped over the arm rests so that I can still seem like I'm dressed while sitting there.
If I can get away with roaming to the water naked, HELL yeah! We'll see and I'll report back and take plenty of pix to share.

                  ballyterp,

                  Just to clarify Bird island;

it is NOT technicly a "nude beach". it's just a semi-secluded beach where you can go nude...carefully! You cant actually roam around naked but you might be able to get away with being naked in a chair or something, but still keep an eye out for neach strollers.

This is merely what I've read online so far. I plan on experiencing BI myself in June.

Thonglover you under stand it now.
early & late in the day and during the week you can see beach walkers far enough away to cover up. If on a strol carry your speedo balled up in your hand, stroler approching & you either cover or go in the water, will find a lot of boats going by as they have to come out the inlet to get in to the ocean. Use some good common sence you can have a wonderful time and work on the tan lines at the same time.
                    Enjoy your summer visit often.
Nude we you can clothed when you need to be.

thnx NHM, thats pretty much what I have to do at the light house end of Folly beach. It's not that big of a deal to just keep an eye out.
And if you get a good look around, you can usually roam alittle before anyone really gets within and eye's shot of you.

we have been going to sunset beach for the past 12 years or so. I have been nude on bird island many times. There were a good number of others that were nude as well i am guessing about 10 or 12. Most of the nudists stick to the top of the beach where the dunes are and they cant be seen extreamly well. There are a lot of walkers that walk the beach from sunset all the way to the send of bird island. Most nudists stay towards the end of bird island. I always go in July when there is a lot of beach traffic and when you are nude you can easily see people coming from far away. there are many breaks in the crowed where no one is taking a walk to where you can see many football fields away before someone comes. I usually wait for there to be a gap that happends every 5 -10 min then i can walk camly to the beach swim around wait for another gap then walk back up to the dunes. All you have to do is be respectful.
