I am going to be vacationing actually at North Myrtle Beach in June. I have finally talked my wife to join me in social nudism while we are there. I have checked the clubs out in the places to get naked portion of this forum, but am looking for comments from anyone that have been to the clubs in the area on which would be best. It's been a long struggle and I don't want her to have a bad experience. Which one would better? Thanks in advance.

From Recon to Airborne ...
Take her to Coventry just over the border into North Carolina, it is the best of the local clubs for a first time visitor. The other local club leaves a less than pleasent impression and a bitter/sour taste on the tongues of veteran nudists, much less any first timers -- it is far too clique-ish.

nacktman,
Thanks for reconning for me. You Marines always did the hard work for us Army guys...
Another question for you (or anyone else), is there anywhere near I can drive in a 2 wheeled drive car to enjoy the ocean at the same time?

Airborne, thonglover is correct, there is an island called Bird Island just in NC coming up from SC that has been known for nude use.
You can get to Fort Fisher by car and take a boat at high tide or walk at low tide to the island.
There are several places large and small in and around the Outer Banks, but they are several hours drive from the area you will be in.

I've also heard the issue with bird island and the rangers or whatever, but I'd be willing to risk it.
as for the inlet itself; I had planned on renting a beach bike to get down there, but do you actually have to cross water to get to Bird island, or is it accessible at low tide? this part is new info to me.
2tLarry....do you ever make it up to Alum Creek just north of columbus??
OH!..and part of I-77 passes over Lake Norman in NC.

For the wife's first time, I really don't think I'll take a chance with the park rangers, but I'll have to try to find it some evening. Sounds like Sunset Beach would be a good place for us to end up some evening to watch the sunset...normally it's been low tide about that time when we are there, I'll have to wait and see.
I've seen the Outer Banks web sites before and am thinking about leaving a day or two early or staying late on the coast to go up there. I was there before, but it was just a LONG light house driving tour up and down the coast.
The link "Places to get naked" has Coventry at 65 Harbour Drive, Tabor City, Google Earth does not have that address but has Coventry at 361 Lester Watts Road. (31 miles from NMB)

Thonglover in answer to your question, yes you can walk over to the island at low tide (at least you used to be able to only then). I think that the last hurricane to hit the area did some major rearranging of the inlet and now it is not so much of an island but more of a sand dune with wet sand surrounding it and you can walk to it 24/7, hence the increase in the Ranger patrols, pity.
Larry, thonglover is correct the eastern edge of Lake Norman is crossed by I-77 and only a tiny portion of it is visible from the highway on the west as you head south -- the water to the east of the highway is not Lake Norman but a series of older smaller lakes abutted to Lake Norman, which is man made and at one point the largest such lake in the world, and is still up there with 427 miles of shoreline.
Airborne, I think both addresses are correct the first one is the 'physical' address and the latter the 'mailing' address ... and 31 miles north of North Mrytle Beach sounds about right - give or take, exactly which route you take. But do call them and check the addresses I may be backwards in which is which, I don't pay attention to the street signs when I go there anymore.

OK guys and gals.... here is the straight scoop on the above.
The Bird Island issue is pretty simple. It is still owned by the state of South Carolina but is a wildlife preserve. To get there, you have to either go by boat from SC or walk south from NC -- about 1 to 1 1/2 miles. T-Lover had the best idea with the bicycle. Law enforcement patrols are not that risky since the SC cops don't want to drive thru NC to get there. Just be sure you go south far enough to get out of NC. I have never had any problems there except there a alot of people who walk the beach who are not nudists. If you are in the dunes, you are OK. The last few hurricanes covered over the inlet which made Bird Island a true island. It is not an island any longer and is accessable from land.
I haven't been to Coventry since they bought it but was nice the last time I was there. It is about an hour drive from Myrtle Beach.
The resort on Sun Street is nice but you are correct, it is a bit rustic. It is a camp ground for the most part. They have a great pool and hot tub, nice club house, restrooms, etc, and some really nice hiking trails, etc. I think the name of the resort is Whispering Pines. The people there are really nice and really welcome newcomers.
Hope this helps.

Larry, yes it's considered in Shallotte.
BeachBum, unless they have changed extremely (done a 180 as it were), in the last few months Whispering Pines is not welcoming to veteran nudists much less first timers. The last time it had the reputation, and lived up to it, as welcoming 'outsiders' was over 17 years ago and each year since has grown worse than it was the year before.

My first social nudist experience was at Whispering Pines about 10 years ago. They were really nice folks then.... haven't been in several years now and I don't know if it has baeen sold or not. I guess everything changes with time.

GRWAT!! Thanks for a good update on Bird Island. I may have to make the drive up there from Charleston in August when I take vacation.
I'm still looking for Charleston residents who can keep me in the loop with how the lighthouse end of Folly beach is looking this year. Seems like each year, more and more of the beach is being eroded by the currents.
