• Columbus or Bust

Well, we're days away from moving away from our summer place in WV to our 'new home' in Columbus, Ohio. It's been one heck of an uphill battle getting the meeting of the minds and plenty of blood, sweat and tears and alot of praying (mind you, we have to move 3 times.WV= summer place, OH= winter apartment, and MICH=stored stuff) but we finally found ourselves a house and are planing on moving into it within the next two weeks. Our new home (hopefully the last. I'm through with moving) has three stories, 3 fireplaces and an enclosed backyard (i know what you're think but the houses around us are also 3 stories. Humph). So, if you live in Columbus,Oh let's hear from you and say Hi to your new neighbors.

Well, we moved into our place in Columbus and for the first time ever, I not only seen the Northern lights (my first time) in southern Ohio but it was hot enough "on Halloween" to take my shirt off and break a sweat to boot (man the gods were smiling on us that day). I would have loved to take more off but it's in the city and there was two guys TALKING out front (in other words. Seeing what kind of taste we have) Would have been nice but there's plenty of time for that when we go to unpack.

Steve,

Why did you move onto a property where you knew from the very onset that there would be no opportunity for backyard nudity?

I am in that fix myself, but I keep telling myself that my next house will have a private back yard.

Hi Steve, and welcome to Ohio! Don't sweat the houses around you that are three stories tall... it's nothing a three story fence won't cure!

I have a fenced backyard. There are a few neighbors who can see into my yard, but after talking with them, they are ok if I sunbathe nude.

Canude,
Your comment certainly proves the old adage, "talk is cheap". It certainly can sometimes be cheaper to talk to your neighbors and discover that they don't mind your nudity than to put up a fence. Does anyone have an estimate on the price of a 10 foot high privacy fence per foot? It creates some esthetic problems as well. I suppose you can plant bamboo or Leland Cypress in front of it to hide the fence.

Prices will vary tremendously according to region, design and materials. Some very rough (and probably not very accurate) ballpark numbers derived by a quick survey of local sources:

For DIY installation prefab fence sections are typically 8ft long. A prefab 10ft high privacy fence section can cost between $150 to $250. Not including the cost of fence posts and installation (professional installation can cost $6-$10 per foot not including materials). Obviously you can pay less or much more depending on design, materials etc.

Figure $25 to $50 per foot to purchase an installed fence from professionals.

If you have the time and inclination you can build and install from scratch for considerably less. But material costs are still likely to exceed $10 per lineal foot.
