Hello,
My name is Rob Woodman and I am one of the naked performers of Annica with Dandelion Dance Theater. For the past few years our choreographer, Eric Kupers, has been exploring the naked body in dance. Our last piece, Night Marsh, was performed entirely nude by the whole cast. Night Marsh was critically acclaimed by the LA times and San Francisco Chronicle among other newspapers. We performed to sold out houses, including added on performances. We are deepening our extensive investigation of the naked body in dance through our Undressed Project, and we need your help to make this important expansion a reality.
Our new piece, Annica, is based not only on the naked body in performance but we are also exploring the idea of impermanence (the meaning of the Pali word Annica) including loss and death. Our company includes people of all ages, body sizes and abilities. Some of our best dancers are missing limbs. Many people have found our performances healing and transforming in relationship to their bodies. We hope that Annica will also help people heal their fears of loss.
We want to make Annica available to the people who can most appreciate it. Would you help us get the word out about Annica? Perhaps you could announce it on your website or publish in your newsletter. If you would make a donation to Dandelion Dance Theater we will put an ad for you in our programs. We can also send you a stack of brochures.
The best part is that there are two opportunities for people in your organization to participate in Annica. We will have a series of Naked Dance Workshops called Healing Body Image Through Naked Dance. These workshops are for people at every level of dance experience or no experience at all. They will include dance technique, improvisation, composition and processes to heal body image. People from these workshops will be eligible to participate as the naked community chorus in Annica. I also want to emphasize our residential dance intensive at Kalini on the big island of Hawaii. This is sure to be a transformative experience.
We want Annica to be for every-body. Our performances and workshops are listed below. Please join us in this big naked adventure.
Sincerely yours,
Rob Woodman
