Isn't shocking to me, though. Although I think the dark glasses is a little too far. Sunglasses are all well and good, but they hide the eyes.

I have no problem with these shots; but it's also important to remember that much preparation and (dieting, working out, photoshopping...) has gone into these nude photoshoots. To the average woman, it can set unrealistic expectations.

Contrast the above with the below (Mia Tyler). It is clearly spontaneous and fun, in more of a "body acceptance" spirit than a "look at my great looking body." Not to say one is wrong; just completely different ideas around the same theme.

It also causes unrealistic fantasies for men. It took me a while for me to accept my wife's body (she's a body builder). She didn't look like Red Sonja from the comics. Although skinnydipping in a family nudist environment helped some.

The above image is close to what she looks like. Sorry, I couldn't find a nude.

I have my doubts about the magazine covers, the Instagram posts, and other such displays of young, fit, nude celebreties promoting a normalization of nudity among the masses. I believe that most of us who are not comfortable being nude would say that's fine for them, but I don't want anyone to see me dressed like that. The amusement that comes with that kind of statement is due to the fact that what clothing a person wears may draw more attention to the perceived body flaws than being nude among other nude people.

Nudity is certainly being exploited, that's for sure.

Exploitation is a good issue to discuss.

Fifty years ago, a woman would pose nude and receive payment from a photographer or directly from a magazine. The woman's main objective was to receive a payment.

Today on social media, there is no payment involved. The objective is to gain publicity to further the woman's career.

Today on social media it could be seen as an investment. If the photo furthers a woman's career there is plenty of payment. Not that my example is current, but it can backfire too. Judy Norton, who played Mary Ellen on the Waltons, insists that her posing for Playboy ruined her career. I have heard that about other kid stars too, but can't think of any specifically right now.

There seems to be a circular track on this issue. Men love to look at pictures of naked women who will cash in on that fact. If the men would stop buying the pictures, there would be no market for the women to exploit themselves. And if women were not posing for the money, there would be nothing for the men to buy. Nothing is going to change, and I continue to believe that this exposure will not do much if anything at all to normalize nudity in daily living. It will not only take more Free the Nipple type campaigns, but more ordinary people to participate.

                On a side note:

and the latest one to get in on the trend is Kate Winslet; showing that she likes to cook with nothing but an apron on.

If you look at it over say the last 100 years, nudity is infinitely more normalized than it was. Yes, actresses may be naked for what we may consider the wrong reasons but the more people see naked people it becomes normalized. Why almost doesn't matter. That photo of Kate Winslet, semi nude in her own home, gets attention sure but has very little shock value. In 1990 it would have been in a men's magazine, in 1950 it would have been down right scandalous, and in 1920 unheard of. For 30 years I've been hearing about nudists clamoring for acceptance of nonsexual nudity and although I personally agree that nudism is 100% about non sexual nudity, to claim that nudity for the purpose of tantalization is also well woven in to our fabric (so to speak lol) and I say that there's nothing necessarily wrong with that either. It's ok to want to be sexually attractive and be a sexual person. That's not even exclusive to people. But we can't have total hedonism either, nude is fine on a nude beach and a string bikini fine on South Beach but not ok in Grandma's Church and shorts aren't ok at Church Easter Sunday. Balance is everything in this unbalanced world.

I'm rambling, point is that it's all good. We're in a better place than we were and it's getting better. To the point that young people aren't going to nudist resorts because why join a club when you can get naked on Haulover (for example) without worrying about persecution. That wasn't the case not so long ago

I agree with most of of your rambling, I sometimes ramble too. Nudity in film has become common place, but most often is associated with sex. What Britney, Kate, Heidi, and some of the others should be commended for is the display of nudity in normal everyday situations. Young people don't join clubs because of places like Haulover and we old guys often don't have places to go within reasonable traveling distance and our fixed incomes can keep us home too. I honestly belive that if there were more places where a nudist was not persecuted, there would be a lot more nudity. I am thinking of the thousands who particiapte in WBNR throughout the world. Many join just to be naked, and hundreds if not thousands line the routes just to see naked.

Something I have noticed from what is available on You Tube is that the kids like to play games that will only go so far unless there is alcohol involved. Even then the guys will not get naked as quickly as the gals flash their boobs. The spring break videos and boat parties may not reflect what is normal for the participants, but they do show a segment of society that likes to see bare bodies.

Film has been with us for roughly 125 years and from the very beginning, the filmmakers were pushing the envelope when it comes to nudity. I have yet to see anything that old with naked men though I do know that some motion studies were done that way. Women were more likely to bare all or appear in a filmy gown of some type. Tarzan swam in a loincloth. Jane swam nude.

I have to agree with both of you. Nudity has come a long ways for acceptance. And non-sexual nudity is a treatment for Pornography addiction (speaking from experience). Nudity is still being exploited, though. However, Toplessness has come a long way for women. In Utah, it's legal for a woman to bare it all to the waist. She can be as naked as a man can be. This is also a win for nursing mothers.

Here is something you don't see every day (except at resorts, obviously).

Emma Thompson going fully nude - at age 63 - in the movie "Good Luck to You, Leo Grande."

I'm sure she will face some ageist criticism for going "full frontal" at age 63. I think it's remarkable.

Guys can do it too. Motley Crue drummer and former Pamela Anderson husband Tommy Lee posted a full frontal nude shot on Instagram. The photo was up for about four hours before it was taken down. There have been complaints in the media of a perceived double-standard based on the idea that female stars have nude shots taken down more quickly. Motley Crue is presently on tour, so the publicity no doubt is useful.

One aspect of Tommy Lee's Instagram photo that surprises me is that he is circumcised. He was born in Athens to a Greek mother and an American serviceman father. Boys born in Greek hospitals are not circumcised. Perhaps he was born in a US military hospital.

Tommy Lee found a loophole. Frontal nude images are allowed on Instagram if they are art.
