• How many nudists on nude beach?

Do you know how many of naked people at nude beach are really nudists? Not many
I was visiting Canada in February, where on their news channel "Naked News", one of the anchors visited Florida's nude beach. She interviewed several people. Only ONE person said he was a nudist, mostly said they were there for fun or they wanted no tan lines. ONe lady said she was a adult movie star and thats why she was there. I was shocked and now I dont want to do to nude beaches. Do we have privacy or not.

Superman4115: I used to go to a nude beach, just to get naked. At the time, I was not a nudist. Having become a nudist just this past year, I can now say I enjoy the nudist lifestyle, but only at home, or at the beach. I have not ventured out to a resort, yet, but I do live the lifestyle at home.

To others, they may not be able to be nude due to other family members, neighbors, or for what other reason, but they are able to "drop their clothes" at a nude beach to "get away from it all". It's kind of nice to get naked whenever being around others, especially since the possibility of running into someone you know, is not very great. Having the luxury to go to a nude beach on a weekend, or for a vacation, is something I still look forward to. Being able to be nude around others, is something I'm getting more and more used to, but for others who don't have the luxury to be nude at home, being able to get away is something they look forward to each chance they get.

They are nudists at heart, but just can't live the lifestyle at home. Great topic.

I think that it's great if most people at clothing-optional beaches do NOT call themselves nudists. That means that they don't feel that they have to belong to an identifiable group to go naked in a public setting.

P.S. There are a number of clothing-optional beaches in Florida, not just one.

Superman,

As long as people behave well on the beach, there is room for those who are testing the waters and are not yet nude at home.

Perhaps being nude at the beach is a portal that can lead to lifestyle nudism for some. That would be great if it happens. If not, we have at least someone who might vote our way some nudist issue factors into an election.

I think there is some compelling logic for household nudity if you are already comfortable with social nudity on the beach, provided you have the privacy and acceptance you need at home.

By contrast I have heard some bitter complaints from people who are beach nude/house clothed that their children have become ashamed of their bodies simply because without the daily reinforcement of household nudity, annual trips to a nude beach aren't enough to drown out the negative body image and sexualized body image taught by mainsteam society.

Hmm it seems to me like nude beaches are a lot like marijuana. Weed is a gateway drug into drugs that more experienced people take, while a nude beach seems to lead others to try other forms of nudism like resorts.

Write that down

My complaint with the clothing optional beaches
are there are signs that says " BEYOND THIS POINT YOU MAY INCOUNTER NUDE SUNBATHING" and on the other side of the sign it says "BATHING SUITS REQUIRED BEYOUND THIS POINT". My point is if you
are required to have a bathing suit on beyound this point the same should be required on the other side but reverse you should be required to be nude in the nudist part of the beach. But you
have thous gangs of kids walking down in the nude section making all kinds of rude comments and pointing at different people, I feel if they were required to be nude themself they would not be there and therefore they would not be making any comments and familys would feel safer being there kids along with them. But then that is just how if feel how about the rest of you?

Nude954,

Although I've never been to a nude beach, only a nudist resort, I agree that if clothing is required outside a nude beach, then nudity should be required inside. That would keep gawkers out who wouldn't dream of being nude with other people, and are only there to harass the nudists.

I assume it costs very little if anything, compared to a nudist resort, to get onto a nude beach, so anyone who is near one can go there.

Interesting idea, although I take notice any time I hear the phrase "nudity mandatory". Isn't that taking away the freedom many people are seeking by going there in the first place? On the other hand, many resorts do have such policies, and for exactly that reason. I suppose this wouldn't affect me too much, because around here we don't have the law enforcement participation to make it work.

In other countries, I have heard that the "mayor" of the beach and the other regulars have a bit more freedom to chase away the undesirables than they do in the lawsuit-happy USA.

BTW, a dumb question: Would everyone have to stop right next to the sign and strip (or get dressed, depending on which way they were going)?

Is there any difference in infringing on a non-nudist's right not to be nude by saying "Nudity Required Beyond This Point" than it is to infringe on a nudist's right to be nude by saying "Clothes Required Beyond This Point"? The non-nudist may not want to be nude, and he can go somewhere else. The nudist, however, is FORCED to wear clothes against his will whenever he or she goes out in public for fear of "offending" someone and infringing on their "right" not to be offended.

Why is it OK to trample some people's rights in the ground just because those rights are contrary to what others want? While there are many things I am against because of my beliefs, as long as those beliefs don't infringe on my rights, to each their own. I'm only responsible for what I do.

Does this mean that textiles should use the government to try and protect themselves from those that offend them? Do Jewish survivors of concentration camps have the right to block a parade down their street by neo-nazis? Does a black couple have the right to try and shut down a white supremacist church? The answer is no. The right to free speech and free practice of religion is explicitly laid out in the Constitution, but not the right to live your life free from offense.

Just remember this... there is no right to live your life free from being offended. Nowhere in the Constitution, Bill of Rights or the Declaration of Independence does it give us the right to live our lives free from offense. Indeed, I would argue that by living in a pluralistic, democratic, free speech society, you ARE going to be offended almost every day in some way or another.

I am so tired of hearing about how offensive simple nudity is to some people, how shocked they are to see a naked body (or painting or statue) in public. Get over it... I know you see a naked body at least twice a day, and since when does your sense of propriety trump my Pursuit of Happiness as expressed in the Declaration of Independence or my right to free speech or practice of religion as guaranteed by the Bill of Rights?

We are so quick to run and pass laws mandating some particular brand of morality that we forget how to fight for those beliefs ourselves. The civil rights movement did not begin with a federal law. It began with a boycott of a bus system. It meant hardship and sacrafice for those that organized it, but it led to the change they wanted without needing an act of congress.

I'll climb down off my soapbox now...

Here is one way I handle the gwakers...I simply tell them if that is their intention, they need to leave and go to the other beach (pointing in the opposite direction) or else remove their clothes...because as a nudist speaking for the majority, I for one do not go down to the beach to be stared at

i personally do not have a problem with a
non-nudist at a nude beach as long as they are nude. these people are on the same playing field so to speak.
however those who come to gawk, have no right what so ever to be there, these are the true lewd, rude people who have no sense of decency,no respect for themselves or others, and should not be allowed on any beach nude or clothed.
i do understand first timers who may be shy,but you can most likely tell when this is the case.
