Why are the nudist posters on this site such good people?

I decided to post this topic having read that some people think nudists are all perverts and molesters which is of course a statement made without any knowledge of meeting and knowing nudists.

I am very impressed with the way you all help new posters, give encouragement to them to join clubs etc. I know that is what this site is all about but nevertheless the good natures of most of you stands out.

This site anonymously exposes to all, very personal details and the reaction from the other contributors is great. People with personal body image problems are helped, people with financial worries are helped, inexperienced nudists are helped, religious theory is discussed in a very respectful manner, political matters are debated openly. Nudists are very concerned not to offend people.

By being nude we remove the arrogance of clothing, we show we have no desire to falsely impress other people with colourful and or expensive clothing. We are ourselves and we look good naturally. That must have a good effect on our character.

I think nudists, as a group in society, must be nicer people after all we devote (or we would like to) a very large proportion of our lives to pleasure seeking, enjoying, fresh air, the sun, lying on a beach, walking in the bush. Nudists are people with a main aim of having FUN.

What do you think ?

I can't quote the facts and figures on this, but my understanding is:
Swanbourne free beach users have a significantly higher than average disposable income, possibly due to the large number of business, professional, and skilled trades people.
Also the highest percentage of university graduates, compared to other Perth beaches.
I have a copy [somewhere] of a survey taken in Victoria [Australia], which would tend to substantiate the above.
I recall reading some years ago, that all sorts of different categories of people were compared in America, and nudists were found to be the most law abiding category. Perhaps someone has something on this.

OZJames, that was beautiful! I can't agree more, being a new nudist myself and new to the boards, that everyone here is very kind and helpful.

Hey Rex im from Perth too. i find that swanbourne has a good mix of people both young and old who socialise together which is great. i reckon too that at a nude beach you dont get the attitude and showoff's that you get at clothed beaches, allowing people to be more relaxed and have more fun! "Why are the nudist posters on this site such good people?"

It has a great deal to do with how well it is moderated and the longetivity and regularity of some of the members. When you have a site where long-time regulars frequently contribute, it can be like a cyber family or community in the making. New people come in and see how the community has formed and how friendly it is, even through the disagreements, they contribute and become regulars.

"Nudists are very concerned not to offend people."

Yes. That is both our strongest asset and our greatest weakness.

"I think nudists, as a group in society, must be nicer people"

I have heard that too, but can't prove it. The same has been said of Southerners (US). It may have something to do with the above statement made by you, James. That we are careful not to offend anyone.

I think it is because, at one time, we were all in the same situation. Many found being nude is a big challenge. There are a lot of us who read many of the posts before joining these forums. We were "shy" about our new life. It was hard to "talk" to people. A lot of questions were answered. Being a fairly new nudist myself, I learned first hand, of the friendly atmosphere that is here. I also found out that, yea, these are some really great people.

My wife, hw, has found a lot of friends here. A lot of her "curiosities" have been related in these forums as well. Many of her answers have been answered here also. She continues to correspond with others through e-mail, chatting sessions, private messages, etc.

Why does this site have such good people? It's because we "the older ones" must give our advices to the "younger group". We must remember, it is the younger group that we rely on, to continue to carry the message, that pure and simple nudity is nothing to be ashamed of. We must also rely on the younger group, to help get the word out on a positive note. It's kind of like, "passing the torch".

As the nudists from the past, we have learned to build on their philosophies. It is our goal, to teach the younger generation to further expand on those philosophies that were set forth as well. Together, we are one big happy family, complete with squabbles, but then we do share one common denominator, and that is, we like to be nude.

I know alot of us also pray and hope the we some day go back to the graden of Eden. We repect each other and try to help. Our lifestyle is seen as a bad thing. so we all have to hang in there together and get our thoughts out on here. I know that being her has tough me a different light other than what our society as tought us through out our lives. By sticking together I have faith that some day we be ale to be free from the world's body shames. Ok I'll roll of the soap box now

Thank you, James!

You can learn many lessons from trying a misunderstood thing and sticking with it against tremendous scorn and opposition, as nudists have done. And when you're more concerned about forwarding a cause than your own standing, your character has already improved.

I think also because we got rid of Rocket *mostly* and cuz stu isnt around much, its gotten better too. It still puzzles me why some angry weirdo like rocket and someone admiantly against nudity like Stu would even come here anyways, especially when they have their own forum to blow their top on now. I guess they like Yahoo cuz the moderators there are the only ones who can tolerate their BS and they have issues with nudity as much as rocket and stu do!

I,too, have notice the difference with Stu gone. I am one that would not have voted him off but it is nice that he is gone mainly because after presenting the same arguments over and over, it was really quite boring.
Alot of us, including myself, felt almost obligated to respond at times to Stu but, no matter what we could offer, nothing would change Stu's opinion. It was like beating a dead horse-no matter how much you beat him, he is not moving.
I still wish only the best for Stu and his family and hopefully, someday, Stu will work on his nudity problems in a serious, more realistic way.

You posted,

Nice one Mike. After all Stu's posts, all the eloquent explanations he has given, all the uncounted times he has repeatedly stated he is in FAVOUR of more places people can get naked in public, you still insist he is 'against nudity' and make it sound like he should be thrown in jail for ten years.

Fine - you don't agree with his more stringent views; neither do I. But your blinkered, black and white attitude says a whole lot more about you than it does about Stu.

No wonder Stu has left. Even the things he said in favour of nudism are forgotten by those who ridiculously see him as 'the enemy'.

Yeah well maybe that was a little harsh but really it gets annoying when you have this guy that isnt even a nudist that comes to a nudist site and acts like nudity is some bad or horrid thing but yet spends most of his time here and alot of times even though he enjoys having detailed discussions with us I think he just wants to cause trouble, maybe not in the way that rocket did but in a way that he could cause trouble but wouldnt be bad enough for anyone to kick him out. I just dont see why someone who isnt even a nudist or isnt even really interested in becoming one would even want to come here as much as he does if he feels the way he does about it.

I have to agree with Max as well as telling others to stop bashing stu. I, for one, hopes he does come back. This site is getting a bit boring without him. Noe as Max stated, the only things that stu really disagreed with us about was where we should be allowed to be naked in public and the ability for the general public to be able to see us. But philosophically, he was generally on the side of nudism even if he was not one and was not aware that he even had any real problems.

And Mike, you wonder why stu, a non-nudist, came here to debate with us while you have been debating on his "Prudes" group. Why did you go there? Was it just for stu's sake?

I just feel like giving a few personal impressions about Mike and Stu, and I hope neither are offended, in any way.
Like most young guys, Mike is impetuous at times, and perhaps quick to react to what could be seen as a personal attack. He's also quick to modify his views, if this is suggested to him, and he sees it as appropriate, and that is to his credit. We all go through life looking, listening and learning, but most of us have had a lot more practice at that, because we've lived a lot longer.
Mike also makes some good points, and is a valuable contributor.
Stu speaks from his own, very unusual, personal experiences, and from his legal training and teaching background. He also speaks with an eloquence that few of us have.
Just as we can be repetitive in the defence and promotion of our lifestyles, Stu can be repetitive in defence of his beliefs.
And I suppose it's to be expected of a lawyer, that he sometimes seemed to go on incessantly, in the face of what could be seen as irrefutable evidence against his position.
But, unusual for a self-confessed prude, [super-prude, I would say], Stu invariably agreed that we should have more clothes-optional beaches etc, and we should never forget that.
Stu often forced us to research and rationalise our positions, and I believe he learned plenty from us, probably the only nudist "friends" he's ever likely to have.
