  • Once upon a time there were nudist camps...(NEW ADDITIONS)

Or sometimes people called them 'nudist colonies' - but all seemed to be a far cry from the big 'resorts' of today. Still, these people always seemed to be happy & carefree.

Wow J'man, great pics. I especially enjoyed the slideshow aspect. I really enjoy the pics from the past. I guess when you think about the beginning of social nudism, you remember of the times such as these pics represent. Thanks for posting and sharing.

I was a little surprised myself that the slideshow came on automatically.

Glad you liked the pics. I'll add to the album periodically if I get some more.

Journeyman, you always post great pics.

It always seems that in the older pics, people are much more relaxed and always happy

        The good old days...

& hairy, it's quite remarkable how much pubic hair is only display, not something one would see in contemporary naturism !

Sometimes these older photos appear "staged" or posed to me but then I remember they were just as interested in portraying nudism as a lifestyle choice as we are. Not only that but my impression of "mainstream" society prior to the counter-culture revolution of the 1960's is one of conservitive family values and post-war patriotism. So I suppose the people in a few of these photos might have been concerned about committing images to film and print.

In these days of e-mail, digital images, Photobucket and flickr, it is possible to "blast" images of nudism around the world in seconds! I also think that in spite of the current generation's materialism and being "all about me" there is a willingness to care less what other people do in their free time. Today telling someone you are a nudist is just as likely to get a, "yeah, so?" response as it is anything else, which could contribute to a generally more relaxed attitude by us towards taking our pictures and sharing them.

I am not certain of this, it is just an idea.

These day a job can be replaced if co-workers respond negatively to the idea of working with a nudist. I suspect back in my parents and their parents days many people were more "sensitive" to 'rocking the boat' or doing anything to jeopardize their retirement from a 30 year career.

Any comments on how photo subjects attitudes might subtly influence the look captured on film are encouraged and welcomed! (You can even tell me I'm full of baloney if you wish!)

                            .

I am impressed! They take me back to the first set of nudist magazines I bought, something like fun in the sun done by ASA back in the seventies I think. However thier photos seemd to go back much furthercirca 1950 or 60. In my mind this was the golden age of our movement. It all seems so pure and fresh and vital unlike how it seems to me now but perhaps it is I who have changed eh?
