I have grown accustomed, sice I became a dedicated naturist, to walking round the house and garden completely naked. Recently I was indoors and the front doorbell rang. I tied a towel round me and went to the door. Outside there was delivery lady with a large package that I had to sign for. She smiled when she observed my state of undress, but as I bent down to sign the chit my towel gave way and dropped to the floor! I apologised, but because I am completely unselfconscious about my body I simply said that I hoped I hadn't disgusted her unduly, and only picked up the towel in a quite leisurely fashion. She replied that she wasn't upset (in fact she laughed) but she said that she thought I ought to be more careful when I only had a towel round me because I might cause considerable offence to others. I replied, "So what", at which she smiled again, shrugged her shoulders and departed. In your opinion which of us was right, me for not being upset or the lady for mildly reprimanding me?

Not sure how to answer your question, but what I want to stress is that the lady talks about "others" to be offended. That looks like a general phenomenon, people have no issue by/for themselves, but believe the others will have.
Did anybody ever see a person who ever told being personally offended by nudity?Comment

When opening the door I used to grab a towel and warn the caller that I was nude, but after the mail order lady had called twice and she assured me she was unconcerned, implying that it was not uncommon, I soon found most callers appeared similarly unconcerned and now I open the door in the nude shielding my bottom half with the door, immediately warning the caller. Moreover I found that I had insufficient time to grab something before the callers had turned to go away: it was obvious that they more interested in their next call than my attire or lack of! When meter readers call I warn them that I am nude, but invariably they say they are not concerned and come into the house to read the meter. If I have to make an appointment for somebody to call, I ask them to agree to a specific time, but usually they will give a vague time like morning (apparently 8am to 2pm) or afternoon (12noon to 6pm) and I will then say that I shall probably be nude if they cannot be more definite. It is bad enough waiting around for 6 hours, let alone remaining dressed!Comment

There is no logic in being offended by the sight of a nude person. Even disgust is not a direct link to offense, so I see no reason anyone should become offended. It almost reminds me of segregated washrooms, entrances and fountains in that upety white folks would become "offended" if a black person were to use the same facilities.Comment

I dunno, by your description of the conversation it didn't sound like a reprimand as much as a "heads up" that others may not be so understanding.Comment

Been there, Done that, and the Lady Delivery person just smiled and said I'll see you next time...With a little,I Hope!...under her breath, that I wasn't suppose to hear.

We have been nudists for many years now. I know all the arguments-its my house, I gave a warning, etc...BUT. We are almost always nude at home, when someone rings the bell we use the intercom to let them know to 'wait a second" then grab a pair of shorts we keep by the door. I think it is common respect not to "flaunt" the nudity. I am also sure that these comments will no doubt spark a great "debate". In short, do what you feel is correct and be prepared for the consequences.Comment

I would not have said that. I might have said something like, Perhaps they will be as understanding as you are. Or, I don't think nudity is offensive, do you?
Saying "So what" gives the impression that you don't care if you offend people.
I have surprised a few people, but so far none of them have stated that they were offended.

The lady most likely was not repremanding you as much as offering a word of caution. She was correct. As to your state of dress, it is you home and do as you want.
Where it seemingly did not offend her then there is nothing to your detriment nor hers.Comment

uskman, you were fine until you told her "so what" when being told that your nakedness could offend others. She may have been telling you in a round-about way that others she works with may not be so accepting and that there may be a policy regarding customers' nudity.

I agree with Nude in the North and Bob S. While it seems natural to us to go naked, not everyone agrees with that. We need to remember that there is a non-nudist government in power, and one wrong person can get you arrested. Sure it's your home, and you do what you like, but I can't just open the door naked for the FedEx lady and expect her to be okay with it.
I usually just keep a bathrobe near me when I'm nude in case either one of my roommates comes back early or somebody comes to the door.Comment
