• Looking for great nude paintings.

On another subject the painting "Daybreak" came up. I look at this link and bought the painting.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend other great painting, at great prices.

I also bought a copy of the painting "Daybreak". I'm having difficulty finding a frame big enough for it. I guess I should have paid the extra money and had them frame it for me. I just couldn't see paying $70 for a frame. I don't need anything THAT fancy.

The original of Daybreak was done in 1922, and I understand that the nude is the granddaughter of the painter, Maxfield Parrish, who lived from 1870 to 1966. I always thought it was a boy, despite not seeing any genitals.

There are 689 reasonably priced prints, in various styles, of famous fine art nudes, at the following web site;

Poke around at the site of this artist:

He's got a very cogent defense of an adolescent nude here: http://www.otolo.de/patrick_e.html

I can recommend the art of Michael Whelan.
Some of his painting fall under the Science Fiction/Fantasy genre. Several of them are of nudes in interesting dreamlike settings.

My favorite is Bluebird, which can be found by clicking on this link and scrolling down:
Artist Interviews - Whelan
I imagine that a young woman from Earth has survived a crash landing on some faraway planet with a hospitable climate. She had a bluebird with her, but from the ruins of her rocketship, she set it free to find its own way in this new world. The woman has abandoned her clothes. She won't need them in this gentle world she will soon venture into.

You can see more on Whelan's own Web site, but navigation is a little cumbersome:

While I saw nothing wrong with it, I was surprised to see many drawings of nude boys in Patrick's Web site. In this day of uninformed people who get hysterical over seeing nude photos of children, it's a wonder someone doesn't accuse him of child porn. There's nothing pornographic about the drawings, but being a nudist I don't see anything pornographic about simple, innocent nudity. I thought they were very well done, although many of them looked unfinished.

They are similar to the photos on Jonnie's Boyhood Paradise Gallery.

Is there anybody on this BB that buys Boris Vallejo & Julie Bell's Fantasy calendars? They are, IMO excellent examples of sensual, non-sexual paintings. I buy them every year and have quite a collection. Check them out.

I did at, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...45752?v=glance
I going to try to buy one, for some reason it would not take my credit card, I guess you have to be a member, or something.
That one site was full of young boys, they are nice but not what I was looking for. You never know what problems you could get into having that hanging up at the house. I was suprise how fast the picture Daydream came, the next day. Thanks for all the input I would love to buy more tasteful nudes to hang up. Now if anyone knows a cheep picture frame website?
I also bought the Pink Floyd poster "Back" at
http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp?aid=9518
I have allways love to own that poster, cant wait to see it.
Thanks again for the sites

I've seen the Vallejo/Bell calendars in bookstores, and Boris has also published a book or two of his work. I like his subject material but find his figures a little exaggerated to be beautiful: waists a little too pinched, men's muscles a little too bulgy, women's breasts and hips a little too full, and so forth. In his work most men are Conan and most women are Playmates.

Jochanaan--

I have to agree with you about exaggeration and perfection in his and Julie Bell's paintings. Just keep in mind that these painting are in the realm of fantasy and not reality. Having been to a couple nudist resorts I definitely am in touch with reality.

Another comment on fine art is that (IMO) all fine art is abstact in that it is the artist interpretation of what really is no matter how realistic it seems.

I find that statement very amusing, and very true. In reality, the "ideal body shape" at a nudist resort is only a "fantasy" as you may never see "the ideal" 99% of the time.

I went to Otto's site. He's a marvelous painter. I have no idea how he could get his models to hold still long enough. Perhaps he does a sketch and them fills in from a photo? I don't read German so I can't figure out what he's saying much of the time.

A lot of the links don't work.

Perhaps Germany has a different notion of what is pornographic than US prosecutors?

Since the images were not of children engaged in illegal or sexual activity they wouldn't fit the definition of porn here. Doesn't mean some prosecutor wouldn't try his luck just to harass the painter if he thought it would get him some publicity.

"Jonnie's Boyhood Paradise Gallery"

That just sounds wierd...!

Just as I was about to give up and declare there was no artistic nude work being done of the male I found just the place. There's photos, sketches, painting and sculpture, classic and contemporary. It's at:
