  • Clothing Optional 5K in NC on July 30th

Is anyone else out there planning to participate in the Take Pride in Your Hide 5K on July 30th in Reidsville, North Carolina at the Bar-S Ranch? Have any of you participated in the past?

I started training two days ago in hopes of making it (and surviving) and I would like to hear from any of you who may attend in hopes of at least meeting you at the event.

I did a few 5Ks several years ago (huge events in which you could barely run if you wanted to) and I am no stranger to public nudity, but this will be my first official naked running event. Hopefully I will get hooked, but at the moment I find the training challenging.

I need to be able to walk afterwards since I plan to go backpacking up in New England a few days later with a hiker I met here in the forums.

I was at Bar-S Ranch a couple of weeks ago. My advice is to thoroughly douse yourself with bug spray before taking any of the trails into the woods. Even on a bike, you can't outrun the deerflies. The bugs weren't much trouble in the central area of the park around the pool and cabins but they were murder on the back woods trails.

I just got word that the Paradise Valley (Dawsonville, GA) Fall 5K run will be 9-24-05 at 10:00 am. No bugs to worry about but that hill is not any flatter than it is in the spring especially 3 times over.

I hope to do a clothing optional 5k someday (I'm guessing probably in Texas). But, for now, I'll have to pacify myself with the clothed variety (the last one of which I was very pleasantly surprised with how well it went for me). Best wishes to those who are able to take advantage of these 5k events.

Huey, I'd be up there running with you but the run is the weekend of my daughter's first birthday. I will not miss her birthday for anything.

AR, I already have the race on the calendar. I hope to plan a campint trip for that weekend.

Ben, how about you come on down and run the figleaf with us. Now, I'm afraid that you would have some competition if ya came down. I'd carry up the rear but there are some guys that can run real fast with their shorts off.

I had not previously heard of the figleaf, but my options are pretty limited (if they exist at all). I do not doubt the competition, but my "not displeased" was a third-place overall finish 17:38 5k. I wasn't complaining, especially not at my age.

I was just updating my calendar and found out that I already have plans to go to the UGA / Miss State football game that weekend in Starkville. I know it sounds like an incredibly geek thing to do but I have been trying to get to a football game at each SEC school for years and the chance to get to a Mississippi school doesn't come up too often. Jason-Soggy already said he is going to do the fall run and will be competing with you. I am sure there will be more hashers making it up for the run; I just wish I could be there. Will be my first one to miss in about 4 or 5 runs.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I am leaving in an hour to drive up and camp overnight in anticipation of the run tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

Well, I wished I could brag about my time, but the sad fact is that my time was 35:20. On a positive note, I did at least run the entire course, and although I last participated in 5K's in 1997, I am certain this was the first and only time in my entire 37 year life I ran 3 miles without stopping. My month of training certainly made all the difference. I hope to better my time next time (there is another race here in Ga on Sep 24 at Paradise Valley).

I especially enjoyed the water lady splashing my body with a cup of water as I ran by the 1.5 mile drink table.

There were 200 registered I heard but only 167 participated. The cool overcast weather was about perfect for a run in my opinion, still warm, but comfortable. The fire truck was there spraying us with a firehose near the end as the race was a fundraiser for the local fire department. There was a large contingent of hashers there and a local TV news crew and the Greensboro paper had a reporter running with us. I did meet some interesting folks, including a couple the evening before. I was surprised at how many people did that run as their very first social nude experience.

I participated in the photo but never heard the details on geting one so did not reserve one. I was too busy having a beer and running my mouth I suppose to have caught that announcement.

                    Thanks again for everyone's advice.
