• Nude River Floating

Anyone got a great story to tell about floating down a river nude in an inner tube, float, raft, canoe or kayak?

I have heard that the Altamaha and Suwannee rivers are great for that in the summer when the water is low and you can camp on the sandbars.

The Okefenokee is not a river, but a lot of people explore it by canoe. Anyone done it nude?

Years ago, a white water outfitter said that their company has "off-the-record" nude by moonlight floats down the Ocoee River in eastern Tennessee.

Looking forward to your nude river trip stories!

While I have not had the fun of a group nude paddle, I do kayak nude all of the time. Mostly on New Jersey lakes and reservoirs. I have done some kayaking in the NJ Pine Barrens too.

My second wife and I used to swim and kayak nude at Lake Leschenaultia, in the hills inland from Perth.
As it was a popular recreation area, for both locals and visitors, we kept to the quiet end of the lake.
One time, we were in the refreshment kiosk, and the ranger was in there. I [innocently] asked him if anyone ever swam nude in the lake. "Yes", he said, "I do."

The White River in southern Vermont is a great place for nude river rafting.

A couple of summers ago, two of us went on a 4-day nude kayaking trip in French River Provincial Park in Ontario. A wonderful experience to be nude in nature 24/7.

My club did a canoe trip down the St. Mary's river on the Florida/Georgia line. There was a pretty long stretch of river that's uninhabited. There were nine of us, all together, but I was the only one ballsey enough to make the whole trip nude. Great experience, we tried to put together another trip last summer, but scheduling conflicts and mother nature's uncooperativeness didn't let it happen. Maybe this summer....

Hey Kenny, that sounds like a really great trip!

Did you wait until late summer when the sandbars along the riverbanks were available for camping, or was your trip earlier when the water is typically higher. (If so, did you have any problems finding a place to sleep for the night?)

One of our local clubs used to do a river canoe trip on a river where other people were regularly encountered. On their first such trip, some snitch paddled ahead to whine to the park rangers about those "horrible naked people". Fortunately they slipped on shorts and tops in time. The waiting ranger let them off with a warning. Our club got smart after that and made sure that no one paddled ahead to tattle on them. (That could make for some intense effort depending on how determined your enemy is).

Not a canoeing story, but a nude at the river one.
About 400 miles north of Perth, there's a river called the Murchison. It flows through a series of spectacular gorges, and reaches the Indian Ocean, at a town called Kalbarri.
Several years ago, Kathy and I had the most interesting holiday, 6 days backpacking along the bottom of the gorge, carrying everything on our backs.
At the induction meeting, the guides stressed how important it was not to bring any unnecessary items, because we had to carry tents, special mattresses, clothes, food, etc, and they particularly mentioned swimwear as being not needed.
Kathy and I swam nude, so did the guide, John, and one other young man. All the other men and women wore bathers, although it obviously didn't bother anyone that we didn't.
One guy, Tom, took all his clothes off in front of everyone, then put swimming trunks on. When he came out, he took his trunks off, dried himself, and got dressed. He didn't mind being nude in front of everyone, but he wouldn't swim nude.
During the 6 days, we saw quite a number of other people, but no-one seemed to care about the nudity.

We didn't spend the night on the river, just a day trip. One of our club members lives in Baker County and his property backs up to the river. The St. Mary's is a funny river in that it'll flood it's banks one week, and three weeks later you can step across it without getting your feet wet. But that particular weekend the water level was just high enough to allow safe passage (no canoe dragging this trip) but it left some beautiful white sand beaches and shear cliffs for exploring. One such beach provided our picnic area, and we explored a hunter's shed/picnic area put up by a local hunting club (no hunters that day, and we didn't disturb anything, just looked around...we were curious, not criminal). The unpredictability of the river is mainly why we've had so much trouble scheduling a return trip.

Maybe a quick phone call to your friend on the river could provide that critical water level information to you. And I suppose you would want to always have a Plan-B in case the water is too low or high.

Gary, Did you go with a tour or on your own on the White River in VT? Any places better than others on the river to go nude?

Check out this trip down the Arroyo Seco in central California. They do it every year. I'd wanted to go last year but stuff intervened that made it impossible. Looks like I won't make it this year either.

Pru Creek just 30 minutes north of LA is a little known gem. The best canoeing is right after a rain storm. I haven't tried canoeing down it but all year long it makes a marvelous summertime nude hike, esp. if you don't mind a lot of wading and swimming. (I suggest heading about a mile downstream before losing your clothes.) Never made it to the Upper Piru but I've heard good things about it.

I've heard about nude rafting trips through the Grand Canyon but never had a chance to participate.

On the Kern river there is the Richbar Run which ends at a local nude beach.

On the south fork of the Merced there is the South Fork Merced River to Miller's Landing run which also ends at a local nude swiming spot.

Shoot, any river that goes through the backcountry is suitable to be unsuited on. When I was a little boy and lived in the country, the north branch of the Tobacco river passed through our property. I took off my clothes where it went under a bridge and entered our property, floated downstream on an inner tube a good mile before approaching the bridge on the next road over, then hiked back on a game trail along the river. It did get shallow enough in a couple spots that I scraped my bottom.

Nowadays where I came out is an RV park and there are houses along the river.

Yahoo also has a nude/canoe group, I was going to join but had too much on the table already.
