  • Background Checks

According to the SCNA's "Naturist Review" (dated January 2007), The Naturist Society has been screening all its membership for sexual predators.
This is something I didn't know.

However, AANR does not screen its membership. Why? Who knows.

    I think it's a great idea.

Many if not most individual clubs do - they require ID (usually a driver's license) for that purpose. I remember one case where a wanted man was identified because he only had his prison ID. I'm not sure how a national organization like AANR or TNS can do sexual predator checks with just the information included on an application form, such info is easily falsified. They can match names, if a real name was provided, but our national airline 'watch lists' shows how incredibly inaccurate that approach is.

That's going to make it pretty difficult for our naturist friends in Ohio.
I understand that their new sexual predator law makes it a crime to be seen nude by anyone under 18. even their own children in their own home.
That means Every naturist family in Ohio now has 2 sexual predators in the home. Mom and Dad.
And I'm sure there are plenty of non naturist families where atleast one of the parents has been seen nude by their children at one time or another.

When will the Witch hunt end?

It's sad to state, but 'simple' nudity can set off a sexual predator at any time, especially in the home, where it is least expected. I don't particularly like the law, but you have to start clamping down somewhere.

It's just that the nudist community is more exposed to the elements for obvious reasons, especially family resorts. Once the predator is in the system i.e., Megan's Law and others out there, then their name is out in the open for the public for all to view, complete with current whereabouts. As far as personal data, I'm sure if the resort were to go to a local Sheriff's Office with proper paperwork, they would be able to obtain the personal background (criminal) on just about anyone.

Yes I don't mind and I'm a member of Glen Eden in So California, they have been doing this for awhile. Just keeping us safe and out of the media!

I have a feeling that law won't survive a court challenge. Too bad someone will have to go to court - possibly be arrested first - in order to deal with it.

There was a nude protest in Ohio last week by animal rights advocates against KFC. Those protestors would NOT be breaking Ohio's new law because their nudity during a political protest is protected 1st Amendment speech.

So if you are nude in front of your children in Ohio, be sure you are protesting something.

I think it's a great idea. But not just for sexual predators alone. I hope rapists, killers, and anyone with a shady criminal past are look into as well.

I would protest the lack of rights to be nude and comfortable in public.

BTW, who passed this horrendious peice of legislature?

Starting is easy. The problem is knowing when to stop.

A brief check says that the ago of consent in Ohio is 16; combined with this rule I guess it's ok to have sex with a 17-year-old - but you'd better turn out the light before taking your pants off!

The RIAA's copyright infringement blackmail won't survive a court challenge either, but quite a lot of people have decided they can't afford to confront the recording industry's deep pockets.

Unfortunately there are a few words and phrases like "predator", "sex", "protect the children", and even "nudity", that seem to turn off people's good sense. They also guarantee media space for legislators, policemen, and prosecutors.

It's very hard to vote against a law of this sort, even if it's a bad law.
