  • Cycling Nude

Heres another one from a newbie.

I am a keen cyclist, and want to combine this interest with my new found interest in nudism.

I want to enjoy the experience of cycling nude, so am looking for some advice on making it a confortable experience. I have cylced nude a couple of times before and found it a bit uncomfortable, but perhaps I did something wrong (sat wrong in the saddle perhaps).

I would also like to hear other members expereinces of nude cycling - particularly from fellow males, but ladies feel free to contribute too.

    thanks

The main thing is to have a comfortable seat, or saddle as you call them. I had to change mine as it was way to small for a long ride. That is all I can tell you, as it has been awhile since I have ridden. I started out locally on some bike trails (clothed) until I got in shape and felt comfortable enough to go other places more private. I rode a trail that was made from a RR that was abandoned for over 25 miles in the E. part of my state and it was like going back over a 100 years! Nothing but rolling hills and a few trees and a view for miles!

I have spent a lot of time on the trainer nude. Not any issues there. But I can see where getting up and down on the bike would create a lot of friction....all I need to do is examine the frayed cycling shorts to see where that occurs...

Use of a product such as Bodyglide could help reduce that issue if you were able to find a place large enough to ride nude for many miles....

I like to do as many things possible naked as I can. However unless you are going for just a gentle ride I cant really see subjecting the family jewels to a rough trail ride for obvious reasons. This is one activity that might require a little support that shorts can offer.

I recommend a good saddle cover, sheepskin preferably-have them on all my bikes. Also a good leather saddle-I use Brooks.

I have ridden nude in the Fremont Summer Solstice parade the last couple of years. Well, I wasn't really nude because I was wearing my helmet, shoes and body paint, but it was a total blast! This last year there were over 200 of us leading off the parade. Some of the riders got very creative with their body paints and the crowd loved it.

I often cycle nude... having a comfortable saddle, and correctly set up is a big help; but unlike a couple of others here, I don't use a saddle-cover..
Sitting comfortably before you start off is a good idea too, and you do want to ride as smoothly as possible - riding nude can actually give that added incentive for a better riding technique - though, truth be told, your testicles aren't under as much threat as some may imagine, especially those who haven't tried it yet themselves...
Clip-in pedals are another item that actually improves your riding style, and safety, as well - another thing that may seem contrary to non-riders or those who haven't advanced to them yet..
Oh, and wearing gloves, sunnies and bash-hat, as well as shoes, means I'm not exactly a total nudist in this situation.

To me there is not much difference in the way I sit on a bike nude as opposed to clothed. I think having the correct seat and having it adjusted to your dimensions and riding style is key.

I used to mountain bike a lot now not so much. I have yet to find a secure location in my new home state of Washington that I feel comfortable biking nude in other than a nudist resort which I have done many times.

I have had one bad accident while nude biking unlike nude hiking it is rather difficult to get dressed in enough time if you meet someone on the trail. I found out the hard way that you shouldn't even try. I made a rather spectacular dismount and skinned myself up just to pull on my shorts the guy was laughing so hard and just asked if I was alright. I was more embarrassed about falling than being nude.

Having spent a significant amount of time this summer riding my bike, allow me to add my two cents.

As mentioned earlier by hairyballs, other than some gentle riding (preferably on a paved road), doing it nude is not all that appealing.

When you are traveling those old rail road beds averaging seventeen to twenty miles an hour, the more protection the better. Stones, sticks etc tend to get thrown everywhere.

This summer, I have gotten a lot of dirty looks and lectures from the wife in regards to my dirty riding clothes. All kinds of things fall out of them on her laundry room when I get home and undress.

Even if one wanted to ride nude, on a practical level you cannot. The area is to densely populated to allow nude riding without being ticketed or arrested.

Depends on where you live. There on many areas here in Wa. state that one can ride nude safely, but it takes some looking and investigating.

Have you considered combining cycling with nudism and doing it for a cause? There's an event called World Naked Bike Ride that might be of interest to you. The cycling is very casual on flat surfaces, but it is a chance to be with fellow nudists.

If you are from the UK, London has a ride on 9 June 2007. There's rides all over the world. Here's more info: article about world naked bike ride

NaturalmanWa, do you know of any areas safe for nude cycling on the eastern part of the state?

I moved up near Spokane last spring and I do love the area only wish I knew more areas to go hiking and biking in. I have heard a little about the hotsprings over in Idaho and I have been to Kaniksu, even went to there fun run what a cool event, but there seems to be very little non-club nudism around here.

                          Any thoughts?

Look for rail trails and wildlife areas such as Juniper dunes and other places similar. It is better to go during the week when most people are at work also.

... and another thing to remember with all outdoor recreation - remember to take the 'essentials' - including sunscreen, insect repellant and drinking water ...
