U.S. Forest Service lands in the northern part of the state, south of Flagstaff (I-40) are quite accessible and have a few dead-end roads. No permit is required unless you are planning on a fire during the dry season, then they may be prohibited entirely! So plan on using a camp stove with cooking fuel (eg. Sterno) instead of the traditional, open wood fire.
