• I wish TV would stop showing these nudist specials

I really dislike these special nudist themed shows that appear every so often on TV. I remember once seeing a very good documentary on TLC that discussed the practice of nudism from the Native Americans to current nudist actvities. I have never seen the show again but wish I has taped it. Every other time I have seen nudism discussed or shown, it comes off as either being very corny or very embarrassing. I think such advertisement creates a false image of what nudism is about. People need to see it for themselves.

Do you remember the name of the TLC documentary?

As for shows with nudism as a plotline, usually it is a sitcom and there will be jokes made about nudism. Admit it, nudism is a lifestyle that is ripe for the picking for joke-writers. Sit-coms will never take nudism seriously. And a lot of the dramas out there right now are police-based or crime shows, so if a nude beach or nudist park are mentioned, it will probably have something to do with the victim and the suspect.

And when there is a show with such a plotline, it will probably act as a teaser during promo spots to lure viewers to watch their show. As of now, we are a sideshow.

This morning, technically it was yesterday, I saw the show Regis and what's-her-name. Regis was going to a nude beach in I think it was Jamaica. Anyway, he went nude with nothing but a big blue dot to obscure his "unmentionables." The audience there just laughed at it. Didn't seem too serious.

Although I was shocked to see Regis being portrayed nude.

Greetings,

I remember a while back, sometime in the mid to later 1980's. Ther was a brief period of time when nudism was making a round on the talk shown circuit. One of the shows in particular caught my attention when they did the show from inside a nudist club with the stage at the head of a pool with a textile audience on one side of the pool and a nudist audience on the other side as well as in the pool itself. Many of the shows were very informative though I do not remember many of them but I do recall one comment that came from the textile audience when a the show was shot in a club and that was that a black gentleman after hearing the debate between the nudist panel and the textile panel (which happen to make up to women representing religious groups and the other was just a potitican) said that after what he had heard he would be will to give nudism a try. The nudist side clapped as well as some of the textile side.

I would like to see the national organizations get with the produces of the talk shows and perhaps do another round, but skipping over the Jerry Springer like showns and doing the ones that would do the subject justice and be informative at the same time. As people keep saying here and elese where we need to promote nudism in a postive manner so why not in this form? Any feedback on this particulary from the staff if INA.

The show Leo mentioned was Geraldo. I saw that one too.

Recently, a local news station (TV) did a feature on nudists in the area. They showed rear shots of genuine naked people, and interviewed several folks of both sexes who were (apparently) at least topfree.

One woman in particular made enough of an impression that they featured her in the teasers leading up to the news broadcast.

The reporter asked her "What do you do when it gets cold?" (This IS Colorado, after all!).

She looked at him like he was a complete idiot and said "We put clothes on! We're not STUPID!"

I was amazed that they did such a feature.

I recall an MTV show called "True Life" in which someone is followed around w/ a camera and shows his/her day to day life. There's always a specific topic that is being documented. On one show the topic was "My embarrassing parents" (something like that). One of the kids they documented was a boy whose parents were nudists. His parents own a well known resort in CA (don't recall the name). Anywho, I thought the way MTV portrayed nudism was rather disgusting. They made the parents look like a bunch of "idiots" who didn't care about their son's feelings. Also, they made them look like people who try to pressure him and his friend to try nudism which wasn't the case at all. Somehow, the son's female friend got out and tried nude topless sun bathing with the mother. MTV made it look like the mother pressured her to do it. In fact, at the end of the show, they gave an update of the people who were on the show. It said that the girl never went back to the resort again.

Furthermore, there was a segment in which MTV was showing a tour of the resort. The focused on this one embarrassing part where a heavily obese man was dancing and singing. If anyone watched it, they would know what I mean. It was truly embarrassing watching the man make a fool of himself and watching MTV make a fool out of nudism.

To go back to the original post...I do agree that the media either portrays nudism for what it really is or don't talk about it at all. Giving a false picture of nudism only does a disservice to people who are really considering the lifestyle and may back out of it because of what the media shows.

Ricki Lake did a show not too long ago about nudism. The topic was about ppl who wanted to try it but a certain love one was stopping them from doing it. Overall, the show made nudism look pretty good. There was one guest who made a complete fool of herself and nudism. Her husband begs her to not be a nudist or at least be cautious because it affects their daughter. Their young daughter doesn't like it and is quite concomfortable about her mom's behavior. I was pretty sure that the conflicting messages she was getting from her parents had a lot to do with it.

Anywho, the mother appeared to have TOTAL DISREGARD for the feelings of her husband and especially her daughter. From the way she talked and the stories that were told, it appeared she was more of an exhibitionist than a nudist. I thought she was very disturbing. Something didn't click well with me. That being said, her presence on the show gave people the idea that nudism and exhibitionism go hand in hand which isn't the case at all

Rikki Lake show on nudism,
I thought the show gave an open look at first timers and questionalbe spouses with nudism. They actually depicted a female who was a home nudist and the husband not being comfortable with it. The couple seemed to even be in their mid 20's. Also, the interview with the family that manages Lupin naturist retreat was nice. My wife even said she would like to visit Lupin for a first time experience. Even Rikki Lake said she would like to try and be naked more at home with her husband.

PS Rikki Lake show,

I don't think the mom is an exhibitionist, she appeared to me to be someone stuck in a small house with a very paranoid husband, yet wishing to live in body freedom. It seemed like the father might have been scaring the daughter and telling her it is all bad and the mom is just so passive and maybe not educated enough to have voiced her feelings properly. She made a valid point that people should be comfortable and unashamed to be without clothes in their own home.
And yes she walks naked near the front window, but the husband never said she stands there and waves at people and when his father saw her he was the one to visit the house and it is her home.
I live in a small apartment and once in a while it is nice to have the blinds open yet go about your daily business.

First, to the person who says I repeat myself too much, don't read this because I'm going to repeat myself.

toofeelgood,

I learned the hard way how people feel about looking into someone's window and seeing a nude person after being taken in, questioned and analized by a shrink. I won't leave my windows uncovered now.

The funny thing is that if I looked into someone's window and saw a nude woman in there, and I was reported to the police, I would be arrested for being a "peeping Tom", or whatever term they would use. Yet someone can see you nude in your own home and report you, and you could be arrested. It depends on who is doing the looking, innocent or not, and who is being looked at.
