  • New resort in The Caribbean - what would you like to see?

My wife and I are working towards opening a small resort in The Caribbean - hopefully on am amazing white sandy beach. What would you like to see if we were to open up? Is there a demographic currently under-served? What price point would you feel comfortable with?

We'd be looking at doing an all inclusive adults-only resort - not that it wouldn't be a family friendly atmosphere, but rather focusing on a relaxing getaway for adult couples.

Thank you! That would be awesome. You say family friendly atmosphere, but you don’t allow families? By saying "adults only" that implies an "adults only atmosphere" that sounds seedy. Your thoughts? Thank you!

Plenty of resorts are adults only, both textile and nudist, and aren't sex clubs.

You are using a Greek name on this forum, so perhaps you are familiar with Vritomartis < https://www.vritomartis.com >.

Vritomartis is marketed toward families. The resort is nudist only during daylight hours. The pool deck is mandatory nude. There is a shuttle bus to the beach below the cliff from the resort. It is about a fifteen minute walk. I believe the beach is actually public, which I believe is the case for all beaches in Greece, but it is nudist. The resort provides breakfast and dinner buffets. There is a snack bar adjacent to the pool deck that is available for lunch.

Go down there and look at what works in the successful resorts of the size you are planning on opening. Replicate that, just with a nudist atmosphere. As for the price range, you would have to first figure out what amenities you will have and then price accordingly, maybe even slightly lower at first in order to make a name for yourselves.

We've travelled quite a bit, and know what we like, and what others have to offer, just looking for input as to what *you* would like to see, something that isn't already offered. For instance, if we want to attract a younger crowd, we make paddleboards available instead of shuffleboard. Does food matter? Are burgers, fries, and salads sufficient, or would you like to see a varied creative menu? If you had to pick one - would you prefer a pool, or a white sandy beach? How about airfare, would you travel someplace that required connecting flights and switching airlines, or would you prefer to fly direct from the US? How about transportation? Do you want to travel somewhere where everything is within walking distance? Would you prefer an all-inclusive with an airport transfer? Would you want a rental car waiting at the airport and explore the local area on your own during your stay? How about off-property excursions? Would you be interested in group day-trips to historic/cultural spots?

Herein lies my issue. You can't just take random polls for deciding what kind of amenities to offer in a nudist resort. It is up to you to decide what kind of clientele you want (younger or older, married or singles, adventurous or relaxing, etc) and build from there. However, starting there, a swimming pool is almost a must even if you also have the beach.

Food, if you choose to have it, should be local cuisine with some American (assuming you want a more American clientele) items, even a mix of the two. As for travel, people will find the cheapest flights even if they have to have a layover. Land travel will determine where you want to settle and how close you can get to the main cities as well as the general conditions of the area. Different places have better public transportation than others, although ridesharing may be possible as well.

Not everyone has kids or wants them around on vacation. Not seedy at all.

Then "family friendly" should not be his best choice of wording.

Snorkeling is always popular, so choose a spot where guests could find good snorkeling off the beach. Just white sandy beach is very dull for snorkelers. Nude scuba diving would probably also be a hit, and divers are used to spending lots of money for trips. For adult refreshment after those activities, a good beach bar would be nice.
