  • FLASH = DeAnza Springs to go "textile" in October!

October 30. Another nudist site bites the dust.

The thing I can't understand is why the owners think the resort would do better as a textile resort.

The resort offers a swimming pool and access to hiking trails on public land. The former is available at just about any RV park, and the latter is freely available to the general public.

If you want to wear clothes, you could go to an RV park in Palm Springs that has swimming pools, a golf course, and convenient access to restaurants and entertainment.

The only thing that DeAnza currently offers that is a distinct draw is that it is nudist.

I saw a video about that - sparsely populated area - on the Mexican border. There seems to be a non-nudist hiking crowd there. Perhaps they're giving up on nudists, and trying to get those clothed hikers in the fold. That's a guess, but I don't know. You'd have to talk with "Luke".

It's not letting me edit my own message above - but the timing is almost certainly no coincidence; the AANR-West big shots just held their convention at DeAnza over the past weekend.

I would think - of course, I can be wrong - but they didn't want to make the "no more nudism" announcement while they were on the grounds.

Backpackers are cheap bastards. Good luck getting them to spend money at a resort.

If you do a find on YouTube on "Jacumba" - you'll see that the area is pretty desolate, full of migrants wanting to cross into the U.S. There also are hikers, exploring abandoned trains in the area.

^^ Migrants aren't going to spend money at a resort either.

The sort of people who are willing to spend money are looking for more than just a trailer park with a swimming pool in the desert.

Look up "Slab City" to get an idea of what sort of things go on out in the desert.

The most profitable alternative use for the property might be a meth lab.

Likely , nearly all of them at one time or another, but that may well have changed.
