    This takes guts!

The following is a screenshot from a YouTube video of the annual Bay-to-Breakers run in San Francisco.

It takes courage and confidence to be among thousands of people and be the only one nude. I'm sure there were other nude runners, but they were too scattered to offer each other moral support. This video is from several years ago, but the situation remains much the same.

I'd say streaking during a sporting event takes as much guts.

^^ Streaking is based on the idea that you run through in a few seconds while avoiding security. In this instance, the runner is on the course for hours and can't avoid interacting with others.

This is also significantly different from the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) events in which there might be several hundred nude people, which gives strength in numbers.

I've considered participating in a WNBR. I don't think I would have the confidence to do Bay-to-Breakers as a nude solo runner.

I've been considering the WNBR in Madison WI for a number of years. There has always been something to prevent me from getting there. Scheduling conflicts, weather too hot for comfort even for a naked rider, and distance. It has not felt right to drive for six hours to protest the use of fossil fuels.

Yeah, I hear you. The nearest WNBR event to me that allows full nudity is Philadelphia, which is about a six-hour drive. I suppose I could take a train. My understanding is that Amtrak allows non-folding bikes as checked baggage.

Of course, WNBR is not just about getting away from fossil fuels. It is also about making our roads safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

I watched a a video of the start of the 2023 Bay-to-Breakers and took some screenshots.

My guess is that there were about thirty nudists among the thousands of participants.

There were a few nude groups - safety in numbers.

Most of the nudists seemed to be on their own. I admire their courage.

There also was one group of mock nudists.

I saw online that the Lupin Lodge had arranged a shuttle bus to the race for the Bare-to-Breakers group.

6:30 am Bus Departs 8:00 am Bus arrives. Participants will de dropped off near the starting line. Belongings can be stored with the driver. 11:00 am Bus pick up, will be near the finish line. 12:30 -1:30 approx. Participants return to Lupin Lodge Cost is $45 Call Lupin at 1-408-353-9200 to si

That seems very convenient. It solves the problem of what to do with your car keys and drivers license. I do suppose you would still need to keep a pair of shorts with you. For a lone participant, that would be a problem unless you had an accomplice to keep the stuff you need before and after the race. The obvious solution is a small backpack.

Saw that. It's too bad to see that, though. I bet they got giggles.

^^ The nudists didn't get much reaction from the crowd and were largely ignored by the other runners. The biggest crowd reactions were for a guy dressed as Spiderman and people in dinosaur costumes.

Yeah, seeing through the images you captured, there are a lot of creative people. Even the mock nudists were creative.
