  • long time nudist....first time post

    Hey all,
I guess despite my title, I've only been a nudist for 3 years. I started going to Lake O' The Woods Club in Indiana a week after I turned 18. Anyways, here's my question (and I know there are similar posts on this website), but who has found out that a neighbor, friend, or family member is a nudist or has been to a nude beach or nudist resort. If so, please share the story.

One of my fears when I started going to Lighthouse Beach (Long Island,NY) was running into somebody that I know. My second summer there I ran into a family friend who was there with his GF. When he called out my name, I froze like a deer caught in headlights. Since then we alway talk for a few minutes when we see eachother. To the best of my knowledge he has not said anything to anybody in my family although I wouldn't be surprised if he told my cousin.

I have found out a couple of people I know are nudists. I would think it rather neat if I saw someone at a resort that I knew.

eyeluvebeeingnood: my wife is not wanting to run in to any one we know. But I think it would be nice to know some one in the resort when we go that we hang around with or a family member.
We only been once to the Sunshower country club in east Indy.

This summer I started posting in http://www.nudecanadian.com There was another poster from my part of the country. He asked if I was from the same town and identified himself by his work. I knew him. He had also figured out who I was! Well, it was a little uncomfortable because my husband and I had not participated in social nude events yet. We had considered going to Vancouver to Wreck beach or to a nude swim first and here we had an opportunity to meet someone in our own community.

Anyway, we talked about it and then arranged to meet the other couple for dinner at a restaurant. We went to their home and into their hot tub. These people were just acquaintences before and now they are becoming friends! We are even talking about setting up a small non-landed club here. We are fairly remote and our climate does NOT encourage outdoor nudity most of the year with our winter temps that can be -30C!

I am glad we were able to connect with people we knew!

It is nice to know that you met new nudist friends through a website, even though you knew the person concerned anyway, but were not aware that they were nudists.

If you met someone you knew at a public nudist venue, such as Wreck Beach which is known in the UK as well as Canada, then I would see no need for any embarrasment at all. It would just be the same as meeting them in a supermarket or sporting event, you have the same interests and do the same things.

Wife and I have not met "Real World" friends or acquaintances at c/o or naturist facilities, but we have run into friends from a naturist facility back in the "Real World" at a restaurant. They were with textile family members, as were we. The other husband and myself were able to exchange a quick word when one of the kids dropped something and we were able to take the nerves out of the situation.

Haven't met anyone we know at a beach or resort, but we don't make any secret of the fact that we like naturism. Our families and friends know. In contrast, it's amazing how many people we meet on holiday who would never dream of telling their families or closest friends that they take nude vacations. I just don't understand it - and I believe their attitude hinders the acceptance of naturism by society in general.

Re: long time nudist....first time post

I've had one encounter with a young girl who worked with my Dad at the time. I was like 20 years old and still living at home at the time. My folks had no idea I was going to Paradise Valley nudist resort.

She was like 29, so closer to my age than my Dad's but she mentioned working for the same phone company that he did. I asked her if she knew him. She immediately knew who he was and had actually just been assigned to work on some project that he was heading up. She started freaking out, fearing that I would tell him about meeting her. I was like "are you kidding? Do you think my folks have any idea I'm at a nudist resort? You just have to work with him; I have to live with my folks." She was also there with 2 guys who she was in some kind of threeway relationship with that even their own families didn't know about. For me that's no problem; as long as they are happy with it, go for it; but I'd imagine that she REALLY didn't want that getting around the office more so than her love of nudity and skinny dipping.

Anyway I've never understood so many people's discomfort with the idea of running into someone from the "real world" at a nudist place. Unless that person is a gawker they will be naked and already understand the nudist philosophy. I think it would be a great ice breaker. Rather than trying to start conversations with strangers you could just "hey dude; I had no idea you guys were into nudism too" and go from there. Plus if you didn't know that person was a nudist already it's probably because they've been discreet about it and would have no problem keeping it discreet about you.

I did know one girl who had a semi good reason to not want to attend Haulover over fears of running into someone who she knew. She actually wanted to come with me and my roommate but her BF was a jealous douche bag. They both worked at the Hard Rock Casino in South Florida and hence both knew lots of people, including many of the types who might frequent a nude beach. She didn't care if they saw her naked, but her BF wouldn't want her doing something like that. She didn't want to have to deal with the fallout if one of her BF's friends said "hey man, saw your girl at the nude beach last weekend." I did once get her to agree to go to Caliente Nudist resort in Tampa as it would be 4 hours away from where they lived, but the trip never happened. Fortunately for her she finally dumped his ***, but I'm living in ATL right now, so we haven't been able to go to Haulover together.

After I started going to the resorts again for 5K runs a couple times a year about 3 years ago and talking to the same type people, who could not even tell their family, I came to the same conclusion. I made it a point to actually tell my family after that, not that they really cared either way, we are still family and all. I was gonna say I didn't advertise it, but I guess I actually did , because I would always wear the T-shirts from the naked run, "bare as you dare 5k". Every once in awhile someone would ask, "Is that what I think it is?" and would say, "yes,, yes it is exactly that." with a wink and a nod. What the hell, it's not like its illegal or something. Can't say I ever met anyone I knew though.
