i live in s.e. missouri in a town of about 13,000 with many more in surrounding towns. we are a bit rural but not isolated by any means. there is a landed nudist club 45 miles away but i cant possibly afford the membership. i would like to be able to find others that i can meet and enjoy nudism with but all the people i know are so overwhelmingly self- consious about themselves they wont even consider dressing in anything less than full pants andshirt all the time. i dont believe i can reverse years or a decade or more of poor self-image so how do i go about finding like minded people ? i would enjoy spending more time with other nudists i simply dont know how.

Does the club near you have a website? You can write or call them explaining your circumstances: that you're new to social nudism, that you can't afford the membership fee, that you'd like to meet a few active nudists in your area for recreation - to get your feet wet, as it were. I contacted my local group and got a great reaction, and I had most of the same issues you mentioned.
Try it.

http://www.aanr.com/stateclubs/aanr-ny.shtml has a list of AANR sites in New York. Are none of them near you, RiverRat?
http://www.aanr.com/stateclubs/aanr-mo.shtml has a list of Missouri clubs. How far are you from St Louis, Curtis?
You can also both search for organizations in your area at http://www.naturist.com/organizations/searchtop.asp .

I assume you mean in the bootheel. If you're close enough to TN, there is a non-landed club in McKenzie (KenTen Naturists) and a not-prohibitively-expensive landed facility near Jackson (Utopia). Both can be found online through a Google search.

I'm not an active member of either organization, but they seem to have good reputations.
