I would not want my daughter changing in a young men's sports locker room. I still remember my days in the highschool locker room and I definitely would not want my daughter there. There can be more suitable venues for coed activities.

Her mother claims she's being discriminated against because she is "missing the cameraderie". Most of us would rather have skipped some of that 'cameraderie' which in her daughter's case would be sexual harassment, no doubt.

Thats wrong, it will never work, that just iresponsible parenting.

Maybe if the girl was older, but guys at 14 are horny little pervs who might/probobly would try to take advantage of the situation.

The girl should just join an all girls team, or get more of her friends involved if she is so much wanting to have the cameraderie (what the heck is cameraderie? - im guessing its the crap that happens in the changing rooms after the game), she isnt missing much, i play for a feild hockey team (majority girls in team) and all that gets done in the changing rooms, is *****ing, arguing, complaining, talking about which of the boy/girls on the other team where cute (so what we are teenagers), and smelling up the place with B.O.(oh we change seperatly from the boys)

Maybe she's the only girl in that team and find it humiliating to change her clothes alone without her team.

I agree that there is a risk for sexual arrasment, at that age.

On the other hand, I see nothing wrong with women changing clothes in the same room as men. At nudist centers, there are no segregation between men and women.

In the hospitals of Russia,I think that men and women share the same room, there are no separation of the genders there.

Normally at high school hockey games one team uses the men's locker room and another uses the women's. The lone girl on the team would be banished to a classroom, restroom or closet someplace.

IF she were allowed to change with her team mates, there is zero chance of sexual harassment in the lockeroom. There would be coaches there ready to sever the neck of any transgressor - not to mention fellow team mates.

I agree with you Mark. I did not think of that.

First of all they cannot stop things that happen in an instant nor can they be everywhere at once. And i thought adult teachers are discouraged from being in the locker room with adolescents these days --not that i agree with that.

It seems like I've heard/read about this sort of issue before, and apparently it isn't uncommon that the "discimination" is seen as just that and the girls are allowed to join the boys with the expressed restriction that the boys keep their clothes on at all times in the locker room. Honestly, I cannot personally see this resolution as progress .

I agree, this is rather ridiculous. I heard a radio host from Quebec City who said there was a woman in his hockey team, that she changes her clothes whith the men and that there were no problems. Even in North America, some places are more confortable with that than others.

One girl I used to work with was going to school to be a phyisical therapist, her first job was for a male hockey team. There was some fuss over letting a woman, and a very attractive one at that, be allowed in the dressing room with the men.

To my knowledge there was never any improper activities that happened, and she had no hassles from the players.

This is not a new subject. 25 or 30 years ago, a woman was on a college basketball team. A real controverial subject then. The story was that she dressed in the same locker and even showered with her teammates. Apparently, disconterting the first day and no big deal after that.

So far we've only heard what the mother wants. As anybody bothered to ask the daughter what she wants ?
